Would like to know if anyone else has this problem. When Bindi goes poo, she sometimes gets it on her butt and hair. I have to wash her behind area often. It's not too bad because she like to get a bath. I just have to tell her to get in the tub and she get's right in.

When the hair around Allie's booty bets long, I have it trimmed. Sometimes I send her to Petsmart. They have a cut called a sanitary cut. That is all I let them cut on her. I am assuming they just shave the area around her booty. It works really well. We don't have that problem anymore.

I keep Coopers bum area trimmed short, otherwise she will get poop stuck on her and I have the lovely job of cutting it out. I keep her girl parts trimmed too otherwise the pee drips and I dont want it to get smelly

Yes, you need to do a sanitary trim on Bindi's butt.  You can use clippers and clip away from the center, not towards it!  Also, don't use a blade like a #40 because you will shave her to the skin and that could be irritating to her.  I most of the time just use my blunt end manicure scissors and trim away the hair under the tail just above the poop shoot (lol) and then the hair around it out making about a 1-2" circle when done.  No skin showing.  You also might want to use the same scissors and when she is laying on her back resting, trim the pee pee area.  That will keep her dryer. If you have her done at a Groomer be very specific about not shaving to the skin.  There are quite a few Doodles on DK who have had razor burn and many issues as a result.  Also, you really don't want them bald there so that you see everything they own!

I've been wondering the same thing...that has been a FREQUENT problem for us too!  The sanitary cut didn't even really help that much...but in the last couple of weeks she has begun to have more solid poos and that at least has helped.  You're very lucky Bindi likes baths - MacKenzie is not much of a fan so I've bought the doggie wipes and use that to clean her up.  They work okay, but I'd really like this problem to go away entirely!

We use a wet paper towel to wipe Ollie's butt every time he goes potty (poop). That helps keep the area clean. I also scissor his butt hair short (has to be done when he is fast asleep and that too very carefully.)  We started this after we got him home an realized about a week later that we had a not so pleasant cleaning job ahead of us. With the new routine, his butt stays clean.

Yes, and I had this with my toy poodle too.  I bathe her about once a month in between groomings and trim her behind real close which helps.  But I still have to wash the area after some poops.  Also both the poodle had and my doodle has anal gland problems and the vet recommended to take a warm wash cloth with a little bit of baby soap and go in circular motion around the anus for at least a full minute every day.  It helps but I still have to have the vet empty the sacs every 2-3 mos....I still can't bring myself to do it.

I was going to also suggest that in some cases it is anal glands. Hudson is 7 months old and has had to have his glands emptied once a month since we got home. The vet has made no suggestions as to what to do to prevent it, (why would they, I'm paying them a small fortune..) so thanks for that tip, I think I will try the soap and cloth!

The firmer the stools, the better for emptying anal sacs. You might want to add pumpkin, change food etc., to achieve firmer stools.

My daughter was having problems with her Rhodesian Ridgeback's anal glads smelling quite strongly and frequently.  Her vet told her to buy the Metamucil waffers from the grocery or drug store.  The ones made for humans.  You get a box of them which are individually wrapped with two waffers in them.  I think they are apple flavored.  They are filled psylium (sp) and are good fiber.  The vet said to give Luna 2 waffers a day.  They are like cookies and she uses them as a treat.  No smelly butt since.  I am going to get some to keep on hand.  I just hope that Ms Picky Gracie Doodle will eat them.  She spit out fresh blueberries today!

Thanks for the tips!! Hudsons stool are really firm, thats why I assumed it would stop as he grew a little older... he is eating orijen, but I will try the pumkin and the waffers!

Getting the "sanitary cut" at grooming time has solved that problem for us.
