We got our dog park permit in the mail yesterday and decided to try it out today.  We had never gone to a dog park before so we were not sure what to expect.  They had a large 5-acre area and a 1-acre area for smaller dogs. Buddy had fun running around and chasing after his toys.  Overall it was a good visit.   What surprised us was that we were the only ones there.  We had the place to ourselves!  We might go back this evening to see if there are any dogs there...not sure when they show up, early morning, etc.  Any thoughts on this, or your experience?

By the way, the one we went to was in Homer Glen, IL - Messenger Marsh!

Thanks!

What is a dog park permit? And 5 acres, WOW! Our dog parks are small fenced in areas with wood chips. Perhaps I'll move to IL! :-)
We just started going to dog parks too. I took Shelby at 9:00am on Saturday morning and there were already 6 or 7 other dogs. When we left at 11:00, there were several who had come and gone. I am in TX and it's hot - so early morning and evening just before dusk are the busiest times. During cooler months... right after work until about 7:30pm seems to be pretty busy. Ditoo on Camilla and Darwin's question.... what is a dog park permit? Is that an Illinois state law?
THanks for the responses. Both areas are fenced in. ANd the permit is in my opinion a way to make money. We get a badge to wear showing that we paid the money to go there. Kind of silly to me!
here in Vancouver, Canada we need a permit/license to OWN a dog, Like Melissa says, its a way to make money!
We need a permit too for the park near us... I haven't ever gone - too worried about ticks and don't use frontline - she's happy at home... I think. But the permit is also to make sure all the dogs there are UTD on their vaccinations too....
We have a fenced backyard but it is on the small side, so this allows more run room. :) The only thing we fill out on the app is the rabies tag number and exp date. No mention of the other vaccinations. The smaller park was great. The grass was mowed down, there was a little pavillion with benches and the only over grown part was on one edge which we kept him away from.
We have to have a dog license in Ohio. Costs $10.00 per year. It is basically a way for the local County Dog Pound to make money to help be self supporting. They get no County Tax money so whatever they bring in adopting out dogs and dog licenses is what they run on. One of those things that isn't enforced in any way so only the responsible dog owners get them.
$10 that is great! We paid for a July 1- Dec permit and as a non-resident it was $30. The full year is $50!
I WISH we had to get permits to go to the dog parks here! Maybe that would cut down on the more aggressive dogs and hopefully on some of the crazy owners.
I agree with you about the crazy owners, and aggressive dogs. I think finding out there would be a fee, would deter many irresponsible people. Also, I think extra money might help my city keep the dog parks a little nicer!
I wonder If I need a dog permit at Shelby Farms Dog Park in Memphis, TN? Does anyone know? It has been sooo hot , I have been waiting to take Coach when it cools off some.
Here is their website....I looked around it doesn't appear to be required. Maybe you can contact them and find out for sure.
