How often do the places you by from have sales? I'm talking about sale frequency. I just calculated how much acana food my boys will need and how many bags per month and, gulp, it's a good thing I'm budgeting ahead of time. I'm wondering why I didn't go with 2 minis instead of 3 big standard boys. Just kidding I love my boys and I am realizing quality food isn't cheap and I have 3 big boys.

Sales will be helpful for me. Only 3 petstores sell acana and other high quality treats near me. The stores in my area sell the food for $10-$15 more per bag than I can get online at regular prices. And a few places online are offering 15% off per bag. So with the local mark up plus the % off its in my best interest to buy online. From what I've calculated, my 3 boys will go through about 2.5 bags of acana wild Prarie 28.6 lbs per month.
Thanks for any info. If this needs to be moved to the food group I understand. I just want to get some replies before I figure out my strategy.

You guys are great and I appreciate your help!

Love,

I buy everything from chewy.com. Ragley eats Orijen and unfortunately I have not seen either champion foods on sale ever (in the past 8 months or so). The orijen treats go on sale every now and then, and about two months ago, they gave away a free full size bag of orijen treats with the purchase of a large bag of food. The prices on the food, however, are the lowest I have seen in store or on other websites. No tax and free shipping on autoship orders and any order $49 or greater is a great deal IMO.

Wow, my 48 pound and 65 pound doodles go through I of those bags a month. But just recently I've started seeing some sales again on Acana on doggiefood.com. For a while there Acana was excluded from all sales. I buy a couple of bags at a time usually but if there is a sale I buy a couple of extras. Before winter I stocked up and I still have two full bags. Unopened they are fine and will be used long before their use by dates.
Maybe I'm calculating it wrong then. Jake is 56 lbs and brisby 65 lbs. pickles is currently 34 lbs at 4 1/2 months so I'm anticipating what he will actually be. My dogs are pretty active so they big boys each get 3 cups a day and pickles is eating 2. That's 8 cups/day.
We use about a little less than 4 cups a day but I never really calculate how long a bag lasts, just about a month. Luca is more active than Calla, her main activity is eating so she gets does not get as much as their size difference would indicate.

Nope, you are calculating pretty accurately.  Meg is 73# and Polly is going to be right around that and we buy two 30# bags approximately every five weeks.

I think you are correct. My boys are 75 and 85 and we go through a big bag of Acana in about a month. I have it on auto-delivery once a month. I've rarely seen sales on Acana, if ever. But I think they have a customer appreciation policy so if you buy 12 bags, you'll get the 13th free. I should look into it as well.

I also buy from chewy, and George is also on Orijen. I never really even thought about sales honestly. I just decided she was going to eat orijen and other things would have to take a backseat. I will say that I keep 1-2 back up bags on hand at all times, so that if something were to ever come up she would be set for a few months. As others have said the treats do go on sale occasionally. Most people can't fathom spending $90/bag on food for a puppy, but George has more toys than any dog I know and not one of them cost me more than $4. So I cut that money out of her budget in other places. She has never had a bully stick and Himalayan chews are a treat, for toys I either throw a sale toy in my checkout basket for no tax and free shipping when I buy food on chewy OR she gets a homegoods/tj maxx toy (shhh don't tell her).

I do know that with orijen you get a free bag after buying 12 bags, and when you shop with chewy they track it for you and you just call and they send it free. Idk if Acana has a program like that. But I think it kind of makes up for no sales. That's $90 back...

My three have been eating Orijen and go through a big bag about every two weeks so I think your estimate is pretty accurate.  I try not to think about the cost too much.  (I've started cooking for them too and that's even more expensive!)

I was trying to buy the Orijen locally to support the small boutique stores in our area but it is definitely cheaper online.  FWIW, I've never seen it on sale at a local store.

If you buy it at Petango.com and have it auto shipped there is always a discount. their price is $57.79 per bag with auto ship. If you just buy it as a one time shipment its $67.99. Free shipping.
