So I made the not-so-bright decision to give Quinn his Frontline right after we got back from the dog park this morning.  Since then, the Frontline puddle seems to have sucked in every particle of dirt from his fur.  It's really gross.  (See below... ew.)

How long do I need to wait until I can wash him?  I don't want to give him another dose, of course.

I think the instructions say 2 days before bathing....
Oh man, I was afraid of that. I threw away the package since it was the last dose. Sigh.
That's the strangest thing. You do need to be sure you get the Frontline way down onto Quinn's skin. The fur shouldn't have much Frontline on top. Plus it's such a big area. Maybe he just rubbed against something greasy? I don't think it would hurt to take a baby wipe sort of thing and just clean off the top inch of fur because even if that's Frontline it's never going to be absorbed into his skin.
I don't know why that happens! My husband and I do it as a two person job - one of us holds the fur apart while the other one makes sure the applicator is on the skin. But his fur is always gunky afterwards. Is there a better method?
I agree, the Frontline area for my guys is never this large, and it's up much higher.....right at the base of the neck between the shoulders. It definitely looks like there is more here than just the Frontline, so just cleaning across the top of the fur shouldn't be an issue. Just avoid getting down to where the Frontline is on his skin. Can you think of anything he might have rubbed against that would be sticky?
I agree with Jane. Usually it is applied much higher up right between the shoulders. Are you using the right dosage for his weight? Gracie does not have really thick hair so I always use a latex glove and rub it in a little so it doesn't run down her sides. I always do it outside because once she shook and it hit the kitchen wall and the paint got all gooed up!! I use Comfortis and only Frontline Plus when she is going into "TICK" country!!! I don't want to forget she has Frontline on and bury my face in it!!!
Hmmm.....I've never seen this happen before! We use it on our pup and I've used it with past dogs and this has never happened. We use one of the Frontline dosage applicators...seems like it would be maybe 2 Tbsp if that and it doesn't spread out this much. Maybe he did rub against something like someone suggested before? I think you could clean his fur a bit without worrying about removing the medication. Maybe the Frontline dosage is too much for your pup's size?
By the way.... I'm just noticing this now... but our pups look A LOT alike! lol =)
Right?? They could be brothers - I did a double take when the picture of wet Seamus came up on the slide show! And I love that they both have Irish names.
Murphy looks the same when I use frontline also. He does shake a lot and then tries to roll around on the floor after I apply. I wish I knew what it is he feels. I get it on the skin, deep between the fur too. My vet said it is absorbed when the area is dry. Usually the next morning. It looks like you have it in about the correct spot too, in between the shoulders. Is his fur very soft and silky and a little on the thin side? My daughters doodle's hair is so much coarser and thicker than Murphy's that you can't see where the Frontline is at all.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, Sue! That's exactly how Quinn's fur is. We are using the right dosage for his weight and I swear it was applied in the right place, but it does look low in this picture. I think this month was officially a Frontline Fail. :)
Yuck!

I think you could probably brush the area and maybe sprinkle it with cornstarch or baking soda to absorb the gunk and then brush again. Really don't think it is the Frontline and if it is it's never going to sink in anyway. Probably just got into something right after you Frontlined him. Or call the vet and ask if you bathe him can you dose him again?

So sorry this happened, if it's not one thing it's another with our doods. But we still lov'em.
