doodle's hair.  Stuart is now 17 months old and other than a puppy cut on his face and a sanitary - his hair has never been cut.  It is 6 to 8 inches depending on the location, his tummy being 6 and his back and head being 8 inches.  He is so darn cute and people just love his look but he is a shedder, his hair is every place.  Also being in FL and loving to swim - would he feel better if it were shorter.  I'm considering trying it shorter.  Have you cut your doodle's hair, how long was it and how short did you go?

First, I must say - Stuart is adorable!  I'm lovin' the sock!!

We keep Sedona quite short.  Back when she was losing her puppy coat, she matted terribly.  We couldn't brush her daily like we'd have needed to if we kept her long, so we went short.  After the initial shock, we grew to love her shorter "do".

Here she is at 8 months (about the longest she ever got):

Here she is now, with her typical cut:

She does look happier!

Stuart is a very handsome boy.  Charlie is 1 yr 8 mos and a medium ALD (39 lbs).  I love his hair long, but it absolutely means daily brushing!

His last haircut was not too short and looked like this photo below.  He acts like he prefers it shorter that is for sure!  He is getting his hair cut this thursday and I think we will be going quite a bit shorter!

Love both looks, this reminds me of Rooney who doesn't shed but mats, I loved his long look but now keep him shorter too.

Adorable. I'll be curious to see if your groomer can get the "Monty" look. She knows by now, but I used to ask her to keep the tail and head longer.

here is Cooper this spring - at around 6 - 8 inches

and below she is after a summer hair cut. Actually i cut it 3 times, getting shorter and shorted. It is much eaiser to manage short, but i love the long look and it keeps her warm in winter.

Oh and even when long I only need to brush Cooper once a month. it takes a couple of hours, but thats it. no shedding and very little matting.

Stuart looks absolutely gorgeous.  I don't see how you manage it with him swimming.  My doodles both have non shedding very curly, difficult to brush/comb hair.  Being in southern California they swim nearly everyday at least once.  I shave them to 3/8" in May and again in September, otherwise they would never be dry.  Even short I use medicated shampoo occasionally to keep that wet dog smell down.

Stuart is absolutely gorgeous!  Guinness has more a tighter curl coat and so I do keep him short.  Murph has a silky fleece coat.  Here's a picture of him with "longer hair".

I now keep him at about a half to three-qtrs inch with his tail much longer.  I really think he looks best at this length and he's pretty easy to maintain.  For me the trick is that I don't let the groomer shave him....she scissor cuts everywhere except his "sanitary area".

Jane, OMD I did a double take --I thought this was Finnegan (til I realized I've never taken this good a picture) LOL I love the shorter look on Murphy :)

Jane, This is a beautiful picture of Stuart!

Haley's hair is 7 to 8 inches long but thinner and shorter on legs and underneath.  I do have to comb him every day or two but it only takes about 20 minutes.  Haley does not go swimming at all (hates water) but if he did I probably would have to cut his hair shorter.

My Kahlua is 4 years old and I ususally keep her as long as your Stuart. Recently we went on a 2 week vacation this year and the dogsitter did not brush her.  By the time we came back the matts on her leg were pretty bad.  Well it just so happens I had planned on trying out a new groomer.  I told the groomer to cut her but to keep her even and LONG.  Well big mistake to a new groomer.  When I went to pick up my girl she was SHAVED.  Yep, I said SHAVED.  Apparently the matts were "hurting" her and the groomer (being a new customer) didn't want to anger the dog so she just cut out the matts, which of course, led her to "even" it out all over.  BUT!  I have to say, althought it is shorter than I would like, I have changed my mind in keeping her long, I may just go in between, not shaved, but not long.
