Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our Malley just turned 3.  She is a 55 lb F1B Goldendoodle.  We have noticed that she sometimes leaves her morning food and wants to eat later in the day.  We kept her at 3 meals a day until she was 1 and then switched her to 2 times a day.  She does get some treats.  Do your dogs eat 2 x per day or 1 x per day?  Comments?

Libby just turned two and she is doing the same thing!   Three or four times a week she wants nothing to do with her morning meal around 7:00 am.  We do not leave it out all day.  We give her thirty mins. and then put it away.  She always wants her afternoon meal at about three.  She has been on two meals a day since she was one.  She gets treats, but not enough to make her miss a meal.  She gets plenty of water during the day and her treats are usually vegetables and some Fromm treats!  She is definitely not under weight and is in good health, guess at times she is just not hungry.  Wish I felt like that:)  LOL

We feed Darwin in the morning and evening. We used to feed him 3 times a day but he eventually stopped eating his middle meal so we changed it to the new schedule.

I have one that eats twice a day and one that prefers only one meal a day. Every dog is different and sometimes you even have different feeding schedules with 2 dogs in the same house :)

Finnley gets fed once a day. She is not a food gobbler, so she might nibble it when I put it down in the morning, but then again, she might wait until later in the day with it. If she does eat it earlier, then I refill the bowl and she usually doesn't touch it, but I want the option to be open for her. I do pick up her food by 7:00 P.M.

mine get fed twice a day (about 5:30am and around 5:30pm).  If they don't eat roughly every 12 hours I have to deal with bile vomit.  Cubbie would be happy being free fed because he is more of a grazer, but Ollie is a pig and would scarf down Cubbie's food too.

I feed my 70 lb. Labradoodle 6 am and 6 pm=====its up to him to eat it when he feels like it.  Water is given too.  He gets a  Milkbone broken when he come in from outside.  You can break them in threes.  That way he doesnt get overfed as the vet doesnt want him to get overweight.

Both of my doodles are fed about 5am and 5pm. They get a small liver treat twice a day. They are very food motivated and I will have to time it but 40 seconds sounds slow to me Adina. Lol. Actually the idea of either one of them leaving even one morsel in their bowls would start me wondering if they were sick! Maybe cut back on treats, or use her food as treats, or a topping in the morning meal to get her more interested?
I'd probably just leave breakfast down and let her eat as she wishes if it were me. Our daughters doodle, who is 5 years old, has always left food in his bowl most of the day, but eventually eats all his food everyday. And her new puppy doodle is now doing the same. We have to call before going over with our two to have them take up the bowls or mine will head right to their food. They look like they are starving deprived doodles! Embarrassing! They are both perfect weights. Not too thin, not too fat.

Mine both eat twice a day.

We're at 3 meals a day.

We were at 2 meals, but ...

He INHALES his food.  When he vomits from getting carsick, his 8am kibble was still kibble at 4pm.
He's always hungry.  He won't stop.
When we moved to 3 meals ( same amount of food ), he seems to be better at digesting and not trying aggressively to eat everything not in his bowl.

I read 5am and 6am and my eyes popped out of my head.  Only because I refuse to get out of bed before 7 (usually).

I get up at 5 M-F for work and am lucky if I can sleep till 6 on the weekend. Usually it is up around 5 on the weekends too. Out to potty and a quick breakfast for them and then it is back to bed. Sometimes I'll get another 4 hours of sleep...those are good days. Other days I get a wet nose in my face an hour or two later. But then I get mad when I get out of the shower and find those 2 fuzzy fools sleeping in my spot.

I feed my doodles twice a day... I like to feed them at 6 am and at 6 pm.   Are you cutting their required daily amount in half each time?  Example:  My Sasha's food suggests 2 cups a day for her size, I feed one cup in the a.m. and one cup in the p.m.   My Oliver is not a big eater and at times I throw food away.
