I am wondering if your dogs were into humping when they were nine months old.
Porter has never been a big humper of anything...people or other dogs. He did it here and there as a young puppy.
Well, ever since I started practicing for a dance show at home, he has been more into humping. Whoops. It is not a real booty-focused dance, but I think I may have triggered something. Obviously, I won't dance in front of him anymore. But was this a stage and age thing or did I flip a switch in him?
Yeah, went to the dog park for the first time in 3 weeks and just got home. Not a whole lot of humping going on. Some, but mostly just the normal stuff. He was not obsessive at all! :) He also no longer pees on every single mailbox for 2 miles. Melissa, is your dog neutered? I just had mine done 2 weeks ago so I take back what I said above. My dog is no longer obsessed with humping. I can finally take him in public again.
Yes, Porter is an early-neuter ALD. He almost never humped before I danced in front of him. Since then, he has done it about once a day for a week. It may taper off as long as I don't dance in front of him again...
Thankfully, he is not so into doing it with his playmates. We have been at the dog park when a 6-7 month old un-neutered male is just crazy for humping. This one poor mini poodle was humping the air by himself!
Neely isn't a big humper. But he seems to like to hump my little cousin 9 yrs old when she comes over. He gets really excited to play and jumps up on her. He doesn't jump up on other people. Although he did start a jumping episode for a few days when we got home from holidays, seemed over excited to be home
Chewie is 4 months old (today) and has humped since we brought him home (8 weeks old). He only humps this little dog bed my daughter bought him. I think there has been a time or two when he tried it on another (bigger) dog, but normally just this dog bed.
Neely did love his dog bed, it was fleece. I forgot about that, he ate it awhile back. Once it started bleeding foam chunks it was sleeping on the sofa instead.
Curly seems to use humping as an "alpha dog" thing over Camo since he is about 10 lbs bigger than Camo. He only humps Camo when they play really hard and serious. We are trying to correct him about that. They are both 13 months old.
