A million thanks for all the wonderful advice and kind words regarding my poor hurt girl. My daughter and I managed to get her up on my bed last night and there she slept without moving. This morning, she jumped off, very carefully, on her own and is not limping at all. She is very, very subdued and feels incredibly sorry for herself. I will wait a few more days and see how it goes and if no improvement, I will take her in. Once again, many thanks for such an outpouring of advice and care....You are all amazing and I am soooooooooo happy to have so many caring friends who understand the love and adoration I have for my furkids. Bless you all xxx

Whilst romping and playing this morning at the local dog park, one of the dogs was being attacked by another dog. The dog that was being attacked (a very large dog) was promptly picked up by it's owner because he/she was yelping and the other dog would not leave it alone. Anyway, my nosey, also extremely very large doodle, Frankie Girl, went over to investigate the scene and in the process got trod on by the man (6ft and very large) carrying the also very large dog. Frankie screamed out in pain because he unknowingly stepped on her left paw. Limping away and flopped down and gave us "the look". Now I am pretty sure there is nothing broken, but probably incredibly bruised. She is walking on it but sort of dragging it a little. I know any form of trauma to our feet is horrible and takes forever to heal. My question to my fellow doodlers is 1) Do  you think I could give her a Motrin to take down the inflammation and 2) Should I rush her off to the vet or wait a few days???

Maybe try and ice her? And see how she feels after she has rested for a night. You could probably call an emergency vet though and ask them if there IS anything you can do for her until you possibly take her to your regular vet tomorrow?

Either Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston or Tufts Veterinary Hospital in Medford, Mass., (or both) have 24-hour emergency phone lines.  I know that you can give buffered aspirin, but don't recall which type or the recommended doses.

I know you can give a type of baby aspirin. I do not know dose or type and I would call vet to find out. If it were my dog we would be a vet. Dogs ( minus my baby) tend to be stolic. I would at east get an x ray and some pain meds for the poor girl!

Hope she feels better!
I amI very much and wait and see kinda girl, and also a RN, so I look for the same as I would for a human injury. Is she weight bearing? Holding it up when she stands? Any swelling, any crepitus with manipulation? I'd also ice, and soak in a warm bath with Epsom salt if you've ruled out obvious fracture. But if not better in 24hrs, I'd go have an X-ray. They can be stoic yes, but will prefer to not cause themselves pain if they can help it by limping or not weight bearing.
I have given mine buffered aspirin, a baby aspirin actually, suggested by the vet.
Good luck, hope she shows improvement tomorrow.

When treating my Springer, my vet said I could give him real plain, uncoated aspirin, but NOT Tylonal or Advil type meds.  We used Bayer.

It list human medicine that is considered safe for dogs - it also has dosage.

Before giving any medication to your pet contact your vet

The only OTC that you can give them I think is baby asprin.  If it were me if she is not showing signs of getting better by Monday morning I would take her to the vet, its better to be sfae than sorry.

Any news? How is she doing?? I would have taken her in to be sure, that's a lot of weight and I would hate for her to be in pain. I would never do human meds without calling an animal hospital first. Hope she's better!

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for asking. Better but sad. I will call my vet today to see if baby asprin is acceptable. You are right, I hate to think of her in pain too but I doubt very much if there is much they can do for a sprained/bruised paw. Just time and rest will be the healer.

Frances, how is Frankie girl this morning?????

Morning Jane. I posted an update this morning and I think she is okay. Very, very, quiet and sad and certainly no walkies for them both today. I truly cannot take one without the other.....I think time and rest is what is needed and I may call my vet to see if I can give her the baby asprin as suggested by many. Still in shock that my girl got injured by a "person" over the dog park....who would have thought!!!!!

Good to hear it didn't get worse=keep us posted!
