I've looked for this topic and haven't found any reference to it so please excuse me if this is a "repeat". Banjo drives me batty with his licking. ME. Or more precisely the body lotion on me. It makes me crazy! I no sooner walk out the bathroom door....(I swear he's sitting outside the door waiting for his next fix)...and there he is! Licking my feet, legs whatever he can get. "No...No...No...Banjo NO!!!" I make him sit so that I can get by him to the stairs....and he's right on my heels...licking my shins all the way down the stairs! Seriously, I worry that whatever chemicals are in the lotions I use must not be good for any dog. Does your dog do this??? Any good ideas on how to discourage this...aside from topping off the lotion with Bitter Apple?
Yes, Murphy is obsessed with Body Lotion. I had to give up using it for the Summer....you guessed it "alligator skin". In the Winter it's fine, because I have long pants on, but in the Summer with shorts it just isn't worth the grief.
I would love to hear suggestions too, although it's not my doodles that are the lickers! It's my corgi..I have tried for years to get him to stop...and yes it totally makes me crazy!!!
I also skip lotion in the summer - Callie goes crazy over it. She's a generous kiss-giver on any given day, but the lotion inspires her to just sit and lick one spot on my leg and I don't like that. The only thing she likes more is sweat.
Harlow is a notorious lotion licker. She especially like the Gardenia one that DD uses and it drive DD batty too. In the summer time I only put lotion on my legs at bedtime.
Luca is my usual licker and he doesn't even need lotion. Luckily for the most part I like it. And he most often goes for leg, rarely my face. Calla doesn't lick often but ten , when she does she's more of a face licker. I try to convince myself it confers immunity to goodness knows what.
No, not usually. The occasional lick on the toes will happen, but he doesn't lick hands or faces, basically ever. He does have some interest in licking shampoo off himself while he's being bathed, but a stern "no" usually stops that...
You could wear a full length bath robe or pants? :-) I wish I had better suggestions.
Holly LOVES body lotion! I call it her frosting. She'll lick any bare skin regardless though, body lotion or not. My DH has taught her to stop licking on command which has been wonderful, but she doesn't always listen to me as well as she does him. Be consistent and let them know it's not ok and they'll get it :). We usually just say "heeeey" in a low deep voice and she stops. I really don't mind it that much but our guests this summer weren't too thrilled about getting their toes licked!
