It's the simple things as to why I like my dog. So many little things that make my day better.
I've always HATED basements. Thank goodness we have one, but I don't like to go down there alone.
My mean sister ( the middle child) used to tell me that Billy Goat Gruff lived under the stairs and was going to grab my ankles as I went down the steps. I suppose I have a hang up because of this. Of course, blame it on her.
Spud, on command, "I'm going to the basement" or " Time to go downstairs" will get all excited, grab a toy, and go downstairs with me. Thanks Spud. After 50 years, I can finally smile when I go down the steps

Love that! What a guy! I have a very old house and a very very old basement--the ceiling is made of tree trunks and the walls are boulders--there are creepy things everywhere and I have to go down there every day twice a day to feed the 2 stray cats that come in and out for food (Yes, i am also a crazy cat lady in addition to being a hopeless doodle addict...) so I feel your pain--I can not bring my dogs down with me because they would eat all the cat food!!! I have to go it alone.....lucky you!
All the basements in the houses I have ever lived in were either "finished" or painted floors and walls, never really a basement like you are referring to here....but my girlfriend had one of these scary type and I hated going in it, they actually called it a cellar.
The graphic is perfect Joanne....what does a wife have to go in the basement for, isn't that why there are husbands?
I miss having a basement so much. This is the first place I've ever lived that doesn't have one, and there is nowhere to store anything. Of course, my basement was light and bright and fully finished, carpetted, recessed lights, etc so it wasn't at all scary.
Good boy Spud! I've heard goats make some good eating, lol!
goat would probably be a unique protein source that would be good to rule out food allergies. lol
Perfect! Spud, you get that Billy Goat, we have a market for him here!
Thanks, Spud. We all need to lean on our doodles from time to time.
Awwww....good Spud! I have a crawl space under the house--a most excellent place to avoid, unless you like spider webs and dampness.
My basement is not that scarey. It used to be finished but recently there has been flooding. So all the cool stuff is gone.
Still, I have a basement phobia. Is there a term for ' Fear of Basements"?
That is so funny Joanne.I grew up in Michigan and was an only child, so no one told me scary stories about the basement. It was fairly nice, tile floor, good lighting. But I never ever went to the basement without my dog along. Somehow that made it alright.
Now that we live in a basementless house in California, all the basement stuff is in the garage and the cars are in the driveway! We have had roof rats, a feral kitten, possums, and racoons in our garage, in spite of or perhaps because we have always had dogs and thecritters could hide amongst all the junk. Fortunately Roo and Tigger always accompany me to the garage as that is where their big Home Depot bucket of food is!! Maybe its all the stuff that is stored there that makes basements and California garages creepy.
Good boy Spud! Gavin LOVES the basement and can't wait for anyone to go down there so he can follow. Of course the basement is the fun spot - rec room, fireplace, big screen TV, bar, all the good parties... I think he likes to go down to check and see if any company is down there.
