Wow - I'm so glad I found this site before getting my pup!!
I look forward to giving back to others when I finally have
some first hand experiences.

In thinking about pee pads or outdoors for potty training -
even I was confused about how the puppy would learn to
make that transition to ONLY outside.

Based on your feedback and tips I now know:
1) go outdoors only and
2) trust my instincts (if confusing to me it will be for her too).

AGAIN - THANKS EVERYONE! Hugs!!

Didn't see the other posts so forgive me if I am repeating anything--but when you go outside with the puppy, always use the same words and some praise when the pup does something--like "Good go pee" in a happy lilting voice--that way, they learn a label for going potty and will pee on command in the future--not right away, though! it takes a while for them to associate words, but the more you use the same words (consistency) and the shorter you make the phrase (like "go pee" not "please do your business now, OK?"), the faster they will get it.
I tell my boys to "get busy".
Don't forget to use 'those bells'!  they definitely help with training!  GOOD LUCK!  Can't wait to hear all about your days (and nights!)
We also used the potty bells-only had a couple accidents. You also have to make up a potty dance so when they are done you are both happy!! Good luck!
Zeus loves his bells too. He damaged my Christmas bells, so I bought him some real doggie potty bells yesterday at Walmart for under $10. :O)
