...puppy dashes your hopes and dreams. Time to hit the reset button. Uggghhhhh!!!

He was doing sooooo good. I had lost track of the number of weeks he had gone without an accident, because it had been so long. But here's the thing, we had taken away his doggy bed because in the early weeks, he would constantly pee on it. I hid it in my office. Well, in an effort to give him more access to the house, because he had been doing so well with potty training, I let him in my office today. Guess where he had his accident? Right near that damn doggy bed.

In recent days, he has been all over house house and has not had an accident. The one place he fails is near the doggy bed that he used to use as a wee wee pad.

That doggy bed is leaving this house.

It happens.  It is normal. Yes, maybe the doggie bed did/did not have a thing to do with this accident.

Do you use Doggie Bells at your door?  It you do not, now is a great time to introduce them. Spud is 61/2 and still uses them.  A true blessing all around

There are a  lot of ways to start training to use the bells.  Do a search on Youtube and other videos for instructions

It takes awhile but it lasts a lifetime

If the doggie bed has not been thoroughly washed/sprayed with Nature's miracle thus leaving even a tiny amount of his scent... That may be the issue. Dog's will continue to mark where they smell their own urine scent or the urine scent of others. I second the pottie bells.... Amazing the difference it can make. I actually just bought some bells for a friend who is getting a puppy in the next couple of weeks.

I thoroughly washed that bed in nature's miracle numerous times and he would still use the bathroom on in.

We tried the potty bells, but Ace rings them all of the time, plays with them and uses them as teething toys. We had to take those off of the door. I am not concerned with using potty bells because we have trained Ace to knock on the door when he has to go out. He will bark and knock every time he needs to go out and he is very consistent with that, well, until he saw that doggy bed.

I am convinced it's the bed. I am not concerned, I just thought it was kind of interesting that he has this thing about that bed, even though as I said, I have washed, soaked, lathered, that thing in Nature's Miracle and Pet Force. :-)

Butters uses the potty bells for toys, too, or to pull my strings like a furry little puppet master. I try them periodically, then give up again. Haha.

For some reason, I wonder if he associates that bed with him peeing. I'd pick the bed up, maybe even invest in a new one and place the new somewhere different in the house.
We have a cat, that in our old house, if I put a rug in a certain spot ( and it was in my DH's office in front of the desk), she'd pee on it. It actually didn't matter what rug, ANY rug would do! Take the rug away...never a problem. Needless to say, a rug never was put down in that one spot. And she'd never pee anywhere else, for the exception of her litterbox.

Well, we had a set back, but it was my fault. :)

I had taken Gracie outside with me while setting up a tent (waterproofing it, etc). We don't have a fenced in yard, so I set up the yard stake and attached her 30' training lead.  With just enough space between us that I wouldn't get pounced on.  She mostly whined and I thought she was a bit hot (it was a really nice day out!) So, I filled her water bowl 3 times - thinking she would sweat it out. Hahahahahahahahaha!

Duh, dogs don't sweat. ;) She only tinkled out there once. We were out together for about 45 min. But, she didn't seem to thrilled about not being right beside me, so I took her in and crated her.

3 bowls of water + 2 hours crated = pee all over the crate once the teenage boy came home from school!

My bad! What made the situation worse was that said teenager now has an after school job a few days a week and that was one of those days. I had literally 10 min. to take her out, bathe her, clean up the crate, and mop the floor where she walked through the house.  Thank goodness it was all on the laminate floors and not the carpet!

Anyway, it happens. I mostly blame myself these days. ;)

Just as a FYI.....dogs do sweat. They regulate their body heat through panting and sweating at their paw pads.
Ah. Ok. Didn't know about their paw pads. I guess not enough for 3 bowls of water. Lol
