Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After considering a very thought provoking post a week or so ago,
http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/not-doodle-related-but-imp...
and my daughters desire to keep toxic paints and plastics out of her newborns environment, I started really looking at items I purchase and where I can buy them locally first.
I'm familiar with all the risks of dog treats and toys and am diligent in finding these items that are made In the USA. And they were actually not too hard to find, so I figured I would have the same luck with baby things.

However, I didn't expect it to be so hard to find things that were NOT made in China! Did you know even Fisher Price Toys are made in China? Baby storybooks? So many baby clothes, bath toys, even soaps and lotions! It's a bigger challenge than I expected and I am frustrated and even a little mad that Americans have allowed this!

Is anyone else committed to buying American and finding it a challenge?

Leslie, thanks for these links.  I'll check them out for gifts for my 14 month old granddaughter!

Thanks for the links, I will be checking them out soon. I like the teachers philosophy and love giving my grandson wooden spoons, pots and pans and plain ol measuring cups to play with and he is entertained for hours. But give him a leapfrog, or a toy with bells and whistles and it's tossed aside in no time.

What cute items on all these sites. I just wish they weren't so expensive. I can see why the majority of us have to buy China made items when you compare prices. But the quality is undoubtably better I'd think

Maybe broaden your search and look for products made in the US, Canada, Europe... Still staying away from China, still staying with good quality, safe items. Good luck, it is very difficult, especially if money is a issue

Will do.

We try to only buy American made.  When it comes to our Doodles I refuse any food made in China.  I have read too much about Chinese Chicken Jerky and other treats making dogs sick.  I make chicken and steak jerky treats at home,  they are less expensive, easy to make, have no perservatives or chemicals. We buy chicken breast and top or eye round roast. Winn Dixie has buy one get one free sales and their butcher slices it for us into 1/4" slices...easy to put in dehydrator and make.  Made in the USA!

I asked for a dehydrator for Christmas! The baked sweet potatoe slices are great too.

I am!!  This year, as much as possible, I plan to give services (gardening, massage, hair salon) as gifts.  But I know what you mean about trying to find American made "things".  My daughter loves clothes so I did a search for clothes made in the USA.  I found next to nothing, and what I did find tended to be "not my daughter's style" (i.e., ugly) or some designer clothes that were outrageously expensive.  I'll still try to steer away from foreign-made goods, but if I have to I'll look for things made someplace other than China.

Remember to look for Made in Canada too please, we all need to buy as local as possible and China should not be a trade partner at all and we also send them money because they are a poorer Country! Like they need it from us! This has been talked about lately up here on the news. I am not using the proper terminology but you get the drift.

I don't seem to find much "made in Canada" items. I will have to look harder.

Check this out Sue!  China could probably wipe out most of our population by contaminating drugs and vitamins! Who needs nuclear warfare??? OMD!!
