What a great idea, Jane. I'd be happy to donate to a fund as well. Regina, I'm sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts for you and Hurley.
Yes Jane, I too would donate directly to the vet for Hurley's care and I think probably others would as well. I think this is what the Doodle messenger does but if Regina can work this out directly with the vet to set up the fund we could donate to Hurley's fund through her vet. Good idea.
I would be willing to donate also. Ned and Clancy were lucky enough to celebrate their 4th birthdays in March and I would like to donate in honor of their recent birthday.
Great idea. I would be willing to donate too.
Great idea Jane. Bailey will be 1 on May 2nd....I would do the same!
i would do the same. duncan is willing to empty his piggy bank of all his money too. (ok so he doesn't really have a piggy bank but he'll put his pawprint on my check along with my signature!!!
we're rootin for you and hurley!!!
I am SO sorry you got this news. I was feeling so positive that everything was falling into place...then this setback. I'm sure you are devastated. I agree with those that are saying to find out how deep the cysts are first. If they are too deep to operate, then you'll have your answer. If they are not too deep to operate, then you will find someone to do it. IF they were removed and come back, then if I were you I'd not be able to continue that his entire life...getting them removed surgically so they don't reach his brain. But...you don't even know if they WOULD come back. You have to get rid of them once to see. Now, if your breeder has any heart at all, she will refund you the cost of the money OR in the worst case scenario, let you have a new puppy (if you'd even want one from her by then). If the breeder's response was already "this has never happened before," then I'm sure she'll keep right on breeding those dogs. She'll play the odds for sure. Especially since she's not even refunding any money to you (unless she hopefully does later)! I would almost threaten with a lawyer if things got that bad really. This is congenital and life threatening. He's only one. What else would qualify? There is also no way she'd want him returned either. Geez. She certainly doesn't want to deal with that. Do people actually come there to pick up their new puppies? I certainly don't think she'd have a cyst-covered dog running around for all to see. I would send her pictures & all the vet diagnoses (keep yourself copies of course) through registered mail to make sure she gets it. I would start taking notes about your conversations & keep records. I would at least tell her you are considering getting a lawyer unless she does the right thing. Good luck. In the meanwhile, enjoy Hurley & your time together. It is precious. Please let us know how deep those cysts are when you find out.
Oh Regina, I am so sorry that you are going through this and my heart is just breaking for you. I really hope that you get the answers that you need. You are such a wonderful person for trying to do whatever it takes to help Hurley.
I agree with Traci - threaten a lawyer. Now she if she knows you are struggling to pay the vet bills, she may think you cant afford a lawyer, but your have a family member or friend who is a lawyer who will work for free right!!!!!!!!! She doesnt need to know its not true.
A congenital disorder that occurs before the age of 1 certainly should be covered. now i know you would probably not want another puppy, especially one from her, but she should refund you the cost of Hurley to help pay for treatment.
I agree, try to see how deep the cysts are then make a decision to operate. if they are not effecting him right now, I would be hopeful they arent in his brain. They may come back, but at 1 year old, maybe its worth trying...
Im glad you found doodle kisses and have the support you need
I just found this link on the Humane Society of the US's website...looks like they are about 2 hours from you.

I think it is worth calling them.
Regina, have you called the vet school and talked to anyone? I don't think you should just wait for someone to answer your letter...I think you should call and talk to a real person.
