Scout has really mushy poops that are hard to scoop up around the yard.  He is 10 weeks old...anyone else have this issue and will the poops firm up as he gets older?

What is Scout eating for food? Are they formed and soft or soft and pudding like? When we switched Tori to canned, her poops softened up... It has more water in it. but I am sure you will get better advice from other members on this one... they're really good at "poop problems". Try the Health & Medical group as well as the Food Group....
The most likely reason is merely that he's a puppy and still getting used to his food, etc. My Rosco had mush poops for a while as a young pup and they normalized with time. However, since he'll be going to the vet soon again for the next set of vaccines, you might as well take a fresh poop sample with you and have them check it out 'just in case' he has any infection. Probably not, but ya never know. What is he eating?
I don't think this is abnormal. It could be his food that he is getting used to.
Darwin had pretty soft stools for the first few weeks we had him. We slowly transitioned him over to a new food, but I think when they are puppies their stomach is more sensitive. I gave him a spoonful of pure pureed pumpkin with each meal and that helped a lot. Most likely as he gets older his poop will firm up.
thanks for your replies...scout eats the costco brand of puppy food and a variety of treats from the pet store or trader joes. He also woofs down chicken jerky treats on occasion. The breeder fed him the same brand of puppy food. Maybe I should try the pumpkin puree??? Any additional thoughts....
We actually used the pumpkin on the advice of fellow members, and it worked wonders with Tori! I wonder now... can you freeze it in small pieces and use them as treats or freeze some in a Kong??? Is too much not good?
Quincy also had really soft almost runny poops when we first got him. We had him tested for the normal things that cause loose stools and they were all neg. We started him on pumpkin with his meals and that helped a little. Then we gave him chicken and rice and started him on a new food. In a few day his poops were normal. I would stop the store treats and just give him some homemade liver treats. Just cook some liver in the oven until done, cut up in small pieces and put it back in the oven until it is really dried out. Keep it in the freezer and take out a few when you want them. The treats may be the problem not the food. Hope this helps.
We had the same issue with Lily. Our vet recommended adding cooked rice to her kibble and it worked like a charm!
For months I added rice to my Lilly's kibble, every time I would try to stop she would get loose again. I did this until she was about 8 months old. Every weekend I would make some and keep in the fridge, and give her about 1/2 cup each meal. The vet never could find anything wrong with her so she said if the rice worked to keep useing it.
I am new here, but have been having this problem with my Cooper since we got him! After many neg tests at the Vet, Probiotics and a course of antibiotics, we changed his food to "Life's Abundance" food you can order online. We tried Low Residue Iams and still had the problem. The Life's Abundance has made a world of difference. No wheat or corn, no additives or fillers. I found the suggestion from another Doodle Breeder's website and my Vet said to try it. Hope this helps. Also, I stick with one type of treat to keep from upsetting his system.
My Shelby had problems with soft stools (sometimes cow patty like) for weeks - we tested for Parvo every time and even did some pro-biotic treatment for 3 weeks. Eventually her Vet suggested laying off all treats and transitioning her to a different food (not quite as high in protein). It was 3 weeks of kibble only... she is now on Eukenuba puppy... and her stools are firm and easy to scoop. I am slowly introducing various treats back in to her diet and if I notice a change - will eliminate that particular treat. The vet thought the high protein content may have been too much for her system... she likes the new food and is doing great!
As others say, they will firm up. Also don't worry if Scout goes a lot - like 6 or more times/day. It may drive you crazy, but do know it will calm down. At almost 1 year, Peri's BMs are predictable and are only 3 maybe 4 times per day. But oh how I remember that first month or so when it felt constant.
