Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

As some of you know my mom watched PB&J while me, hubby and kids took a 4 day trip to San Fran. It was wonderful for her to offer and she also got first hand experience in living with doodles for a few days. She did a great job and I'm so proud of her! She handled our crew beautifully! She ended up just staying the night down here so that she could keep our dogs on the routine they are use to. I asked her how it went and if she changed her mind about a doodle this December and she says she's still up for it. She said the hardest part for her was that our doodles wake up at 6 am and want to go potty(we don't have a doggie door) so she said getting up early was the toughest part. She acknowledges that will the toughest part for her while her doodle is young. Luckily she does have a doggie door already installed in her new house so once her doodle is trained it can go potty in the morning itself. I'm really proud of her for thinking this through so seriously. But so far, it looks like PB&J are on schedule for a December cousin. :) go mom!

Good news. and my doodles are happy to sleep as late as I want and I would guess so would mom's once it is old enough.

Great news! And Ragley is the same as Calla and Luca- she sleeps in later than I do!

The housebreaking stage will be hard for her with having to get up middle of the night, early a.m., etc. but after that, no problem. :)

What a great experiment, glad it went so well for her.  Meg used to come and wake us up but not since we have Polly.  Polly is still in the crate and for the last couple of months she just waits quietly until one of us opens up and takes her out, anywhere from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m., they are so adaptable.

Way to go Jenn's mom! Finn was an early riser as a pup, but now he's a big sleepyhead in the morning.  So if she can get throughout the first few months, no problem.

I really feel her pup will adapt to her waking habits. Some days we are up at 4:20 and some days 5:30 - 6:00 and mine just go with the flow. They may come to the side of the bed, but will just go lay down if ignored. Good trial run for mom. She got a taste of real life experience with dogs in the house. She sounds like she will be very prepared when it;s time.

So glad all went well.   Initially with a puppy she most certainly will have demanding hours.   However, once he's grown a little I believe she can set the pace.   Banjo rarely needs to get out first thing in the morning....we sometimes may not get him outside til close to 10 am and that's after his last potty at around 5-6 the night before.     In the winter he's adjusted to going out only twice a day.     I think most dogs will follow the lead of their master and adjust to their schedule.     It just takes time.

I think you make an important point, Carol.  I agree.

So proud of your mom. Sounds like the plan is set for sure.

Great news! Sounds like Mom is in for the long haul!

That's great news!  And I agree that she'll just have the early morning issue for a time when the puppy is young, and then he/she will follow your mom's schedule.  I have one of these sleepydoodles - Ellie sleeps later than me, too!

I am glad it was a good experience for her!
