Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We are in the process of looking for a different SUV for more practical purposes, like lugging 2 big doodles and soon, car seat and grandson around in.  Neither the dogs, baby or I need a Lexus and having them damage the seats like they have is too frustrating when I consider resale, so the time is now before more damage is done.

What type do you have and what do you like or dislike about your SUV in regards to the practicality of having your doodle travel in it?  Thanks.

RESULTS: This is what we all either have, wish we had or wish we didn't have. I only included the comments of why we did not like the vehicle because there was too much of the good to mention about the others. Just a summary for us all to review. Comments anyone?

Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7.
Honda Element   "good for doods, not for travel"
Honda Odyssey
Honda Ridgeline
Toyota RAV4
Jeep Grand Cherokee, "good for doods, poor gas mileage"
Toyota Highlander
Nissan Murano
Nissan Pathfinder  "too tall for medium dood to jump into"
Hyandai Santa Fe  "too small"
Ford Explorer
Subaru Outback  "smells like dog"
And of course :

Echo's Corvette with side car!!!

I LOVE our Odyssey!  After leasing 3 of them, we finally decided to buy one and of course, I got into a minor fender bender with THIS one!  I love the new ones - we have a 2006.  We transport a lot of sporting equipment and luggage for trips.  tori fits, but she's only 38 pounds and not a very good traveler in the car at all...It seems she does better in my DH's Santa Fe for some reason...
We are going back out shopping tomorrow, so I will look at the Odyssey too. I forgot about Nancie's Ford Flex. We want it to be economical as well and it sounds as though the Odyssey is.
Love my Ford Explorer..................Two Doodles come everywhere with us!
My husband is a Chevrolet dealer so I drive -- you guessed it -- Chevrolets!  I really love the Tahoe that I am currently driving, but also like the Chevy Traverse. There's plenty of room in either vehicle for doodles, people and everything else!  Come to Bryan, TX and I'm sure my DH will give you a Doodle-discount!! Haha!

By the way, our first Doodle was named TAHOE! Knox is named after the equi-KNOX! (We're brand-loyal, aren't we??!)
How I wish I could come to TX, too, for the 'doodle discount.'  My Suburban lease is up in April and we need a huge car...four children (age 7 years through 14 years) and Phoebe doodle (plus potentially another doodle if I get my way).  It seems there are no discounts for doodles in MN...ha ha ha
My daughter and son-in-law drive the Honda Pilot.  They have two dogs (sadly, not doodles) and a four-month-old baby so it's pretty much the scenario you'll have.  They're loving the car - has plenty of room and all the bells and whistles to make it comfortable.

Get a Doodle Limo like I have!  It is a three seater.  Though I have Gracie ride in the middle seat but there are so many options.  I can put the third seats down flat and she could ride back there if I had passengers in the middle seats.  All the seats fold down entirely flat so I can also have flat cargo or an entire "room" so to speak, for dogs...right up to the back of the front seats!  The seats go down in a flash.  Really a convenient and functional car!  I went from a VW Touareg Mini SUV and we also have/had a Ford Explorer (currently our daughters in San Jose and her Luna Paw's). Mine is a Ford Flex.

Nancie, we all know you have taken the Doodle-Mobile to the next level. I can only hope to get a sticker like yours once I get my SUV.  I love this last picture as Gracie Doodle looks so much like my Murphy!  I am going to check out the Flex, altho DH is a serious Chevy man and only tolerates my love of non-american made cars. As he sticks consistantly with Chevy, I have had Toyota, VW, Honda, Mazda and now Lexus. he actually would LOVE another chevy Tahoe. And Bryan Tx isn't too far a drive for us. Hmmm. Tempting.

I just got a new SUV in June.  It is a GMC terrain.  It is affordable and has lots of head room for the doodle when he is standing up in the backseat with his paws on the centre console.  I LOVE the Tahoe and wanted one badly but it is expensive and the gas bills are astounding. (friend has one).  My terrain is a mid size SUV  and it is large enought for us...luggage and the 97 lb dood and it gets great mileage.
Thanks Debbie, I just looked at it online and it is nice and affordable. What kind of mileage are you getting? I actually get about 23 around town in the Lexus SUV so I wouldn't want less than that.

While I don't have 2 large doodles.... I do have one Medium ALD and have a smaller SUV that I love... so I thought I would mention it for those who might be looking for something smaller.   I have transported Shelby and her friend Malu (a Standard ALD) and they both fit just fine.

I have a Nissan Murano.  Love the rubber cargo mat - great for wet/muddy doodles... cleans easily.   Back seats (60/40 split) fold down flat to make the back much bigger.   It's stylish, not boxy and gets decent milage.... I am currently getting about 20 in town and 26 or so on the Highway!

Bought the SUV before I even thought about a doodle.... but it works great for us!

I have a Murano too and l-o-v-e it!
