We are having a holiday open house in Dec. it will be catered and we are expecting 50-60 people. It will be necessary to move Snicks crate out
of the family room to accommodate the bar. Also there will be all sorts of people friends, colleagues and neighbors milling in and out. I think we should board Snickers for the night. My DH is not exactly sold on the idea as he thinks people will "miss" seeing him and that overall he is good with crowds. Part of me admits I just know it will be easier if he isn't there. We have a Great boarding facility and
it would only be for one night. What are your thoughts on this?

There was a recent discussion about this on here--I think it was Rose Ann (and Amante)--this might help: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/do-i-board-amante-or-not.

If it were me, I'd be mostly concerned about Sadie slipping out the front door when people were coming in and out, and also getting a hold of food she shouldn't. I'm already a fairly nervous hostess, so I think worrying about the dog would make the party not that much fun for me, and then what's the point? :)

Although some of the guests might be disappointed at not having a chance to see Snickers, I think that you and Snickers will both be more comfortable if he doesn't attend. As long as you (and Snickers) like and trust your boarding facility, and don't mind an added expense, I think that sounds like the best plan.

BOARD!!!!!!!!!!

I would board, he could get out on accident. He could get fed food he shouldn't have.

We seem to have just had this discussion not too long ago with several suggestions. But I just hosted a baby shower and although it was only about 25 people, and my two are just social butterflies, I knew I would have another thing to worry about with them home. Doors opening, jumping when excited, getting underfoot as the drinking got going etc.. Putting them in a closed bedroom would be sad, and probably noisy as they would want to get out. And can open the door on their own. We don't crate so that wasn't an option, but maybe you can have Snickers visit and then go to his crate with a treat? Do a search in the forum for party/boarding.
Thanks for the heads up in the other discussion. Looks like I am correct in my feelings. @Karen I already added the boarding fee to our overall budget and yes he likes the boarding place when we pull
In the parking lot he starts barking, tail wagging and he can't wait to get out of the car!

Sounds like a plan to me!

If it were a small group of people, I would probably keep my doods around (especially if it were close friends/family) but with a group that size, I would board them for the night without even thinking twice.  I wouldn't want to have to spend the evening worrying about what people might be feeding them, whether or not they are getting in the way, etc.

With that many people I would board. I would be too distracted worrying about what the dogs were up to.

I agree overall.  If it was a small group I would keep him with you but with a big crowd I think you are doing the right thing re the boarding.

I think it's totally reasonable. Darwin really loves his boarding facility and I know that he would prefer to play with other pups than sit in a crate or bedroom somewhere!

The other option is to gate them in an area where the guests will not be.  I'm having a big crowd for Thanksgiving, and there will be lots of chaos.  My boys will be gated in an upstairs bedroom and everyone will be told to "stay away".  I've done this before and it worked out fine.
