Sorry, I know a while back this story wouldn't go away, but check out this story that came out today on the Huffington Post. Apparently, Obama said something this morning on ABC.
Doodles are already in the pet stores by the hundreds, and have been there for some time. Ditto the irresponsible breeders...a broker in my area who sells directly to the public instead of through the pet stores has been selling doodles from puppy mills for several years now. The PWD's are much, much harder to come by except through a reputable breeder.
Next time they want a LD, call me. I will show them a good looking, darned cute LD.
I found Samantha at a pet shop and was lucky enough that she is a happy and healthy puppy. She came from 46-A-0336 (Samantha's Registration # from Canine Hybird)
Ebel, Janine & Clint
31550 108th Street
Herreid , South Dakota
I have attenpted to contact this woman via phone and email countless times and shocker - she never answered!
All I wanted is pictures of Samantha's mom and dad (whose reg # I supposedly also have)
Of course, this is all before I found DK and learned soo much about where these babies come from.
According to my search Clint Ebel is a livestock rancher and breeds cattle, horses and other animals in South Dakota .....he has a USDA license for all of the above........This is a LARGE commercial breeder who sells animals to brokers.....Sorry Adrianne.....
Do be sorry - I am not surprised! I figured that something was quite Kosher since they never returned by calls and emails. But I wouldnt change a thing. We are so blessed to have her and she is healthy. What more could I ask for? I can only hope and pray that her parents are not in a mill situation. I think about them all the time.
we live in NJ...I'd bring Dexter on the Today Show :) Then again he may start doing doodle 500s around the studio and Obama may change his mind :) He would definitely win them over with his cuteness though :)
I had a feeling that the breeder in the USA TODAY article was misquoted and that is a shame. But many other people are using the nonshedding, hypoallergenic description and its going to spread like wildfire. By the way, one of our members, Marci Southard of Tangowoollabradoodles, and her dogs were filmed a few months ago for an Animal Planet special that is supposed to air sometime this Saturday called "Presidential dogs". They shot over an hour of footage and said it would probably end up being 15 seconds long! Keep an eye out for it!

Saw the clip - the weird thing is that the Portuguese one, NOT the Doodle, looks sooo much like our Cassie, my kids were saying 'look, that's Cassie'. It really, really looks just like Cassie, especially now, after she got groomed yesterday!
I checked out Portuguese Water Dog/Hound? photos on the Internet, they do look a lot like Doodles... but what's up with the shaved behinds?! There must be a reason for it, I don't think it's just for fun, like the extreme Poodle grooming. Anybody?
It's for aerodynamics in the water...they're water retrievers. Same reason as the poodle show cuts. People who have them as pets don't keep them clipped that way.
I don't think she sold the doodle very well. The first thing out of her mouth was they are hard to train.
Here's the video link from I think this mornongs GMA.
