Anyone else on the East Coast about to get smacked by Hurricane Irene?  I live in Portsmouth/Virginia Beach, Va and it's coming for us!  My husband is currently in Boston for is Physician Assistant interview so I'm home alone.  Thankfully my parents are in the area but I hate this time where I constantly check the weather updates trying to make an educated decision on what to do. Prior to Irene threatening to make an appearance, my husband was supposed to drive into town on Friday evening; sleep and rest from the drive on Saturday and then he and Brinkley were going to take a road trip to to TN to visit his parents.  I was originally supposed to go until DH's interview got schedule right in the middle of when we had originally planned to drive to TN.  Now I think DH is going to swing into town Friday night and leave in the middle of the night Friday/Saturday early morning.

I really wish Irene would go out to sea!  Anyone else making preparations for this beast?

Stay safe!!
We live in Alexandria, VA.....I am from new Orleans, so I know the drill.
How did you do with Irene?
I hope you all stay safe!
Stay safe everyone!
We were hunkered down due to tornadoes last night - luckily the big weather missed us by about ten miles.  It has been a crazy week.  Hope you have the same luck we had.

So sorry that you will be home without DH, Heather...but it's great that your parents are close by...

We are in N.J. right now...where they say we should get hit...and we are plannig to leave for S.C. on Monday...where it looks like we should only get rain...I hope and pray!

Our back up generator is in S.C. so it won't be a help to us here!.  Lol...  I hope you won't have to use yours F.

It sounds like Calla enjoyed some early hurricane treats...yummmm...

Anyway...I do hope the reports are wrong...and it heads out to sea!!

Safe wishes to Everyone...

Hoping and Praying that all of you and your families, that live in Irene's path, come through this safe and sound.  I live in British Columbia, Canada, but we keep our sailboat near Annapolis MD.  This morning, my husband flew out to prepare our boat for the storm. He intends to stay on it during Irene. I remember well the fury of Isabel...lets hope it is not a repeat.

So Sorry Heather that you are by yourself during a Hurricane...at least you have a furry friend to keep you company.  Don't take any chances..if they authorities tell you to get out do it...

We are in NJ and if it follows the track of the parkway like they say, it will hit us directly.  We live right by Raritan Bay.  This is all so scary and I feel so helpless because so many of us here in NJ really have no idea what to do if it does hit us hard.  We are used to snow and all that, but not hurricanes!  Other than bringing patio furniture and that stuff in, what does one do to prepare?? Best of luck to everyone!
Batteries, water, food for you and dog, a battery operated radio, bring in anything loose outside. There are lists on TV and online. Charge your cell phone.

Get gas in your car too. If the power goes, the gas pumps don't pump. Fill your bathtub with water, so you can flush your toilets (fill back tank up to flush) Good luck! We will get flooded near our area. We have a generator, so expect to be OK in central NJ. My daughter's in laws had to evacuate in Manville, NJ. They have been moving stuff to safer ground all morning.

Be prepared to spend many days without electricity, so make sure you have enough food and water for the long haul.  Also, make sure to have a well-stocked first aid kit handy.  And just like with severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings, find a safe place in your home away from windows and doors.  Anything can become a projectile in that wind.
