"It's not a lack of love, it's a lack of understanding."

Truer words were never spoken.

If you have dogs and young children or grandchildren, please take two and half minutes to watch this video. It might be the most important thing you watch this year.

This is PERFECT!       We met a young family this past weekend.   The mom was proudly showing me a video of her 15 month old "riding" on their Rhodesian Ridgeback, using the dogs ears as reins.   She thought is was cute.   She didn't appreciate me saying that, though the dog "seems" to tolerate her little girls "games", one just never knows when the dog will be pushed to the point to lashing out.    I really tried to explain that even Banjo (the biggest moosh in the world) might bite if pushed enough.     It breaks my heart that a good dog could react to an innocent child in a violent manner.   It is all the fault of the parents.

Thanks, Carol, I'm so glad someone here looked at it and commented, lol. My favorite doodle breeder shared it this a.m. on FB and I think it is so well done. Of course, those who most need to see it (like that mom you met this weekend) probably won't.

I shared this on FB too this morning as it is so important that children learn how to respect animals. Yes, even our sweet cuddly doodles will tolerate a lot of child play, but there is certainly a point when it can just go too far if children are not taught how to "read" their body language.  Excellent post.

Or the people who do need to see it completely miss that it applies to them- that concept seems to go way over people's heads sometimes.

Such an important message....

Very important message.  We had the family dog through out our years growing up and my Mom taught us to treat our dog as one of the family.  In those days, most of our neighbors' dogs were left outdoors, but not ours!  We were too keep it save and warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  We also were taught that most dogs do not like to be petted on top of their head and to not put our hands or faces quickly up into our dog's face or any other dog for any reason. I do not recall ever trying to use our dog for a pillow or pony!  Who is raising these kids? I saw this video on facebook too.  Whenever I see a video like this - it brings to mind the Sarah Palin fiasco!

Really like how this was presented. Thanks

Me too, Leslie. Seeing it through both the child's eyes and the dog's.

Thanks for sharing. I'll be sharing with my family.

Very Powerful message! Thank you for sharing Karen.

As I have two busy young boys I will help them to understand how to treat their pet. That's a very important message for families who have a dogs. Thank you for sharing!
I like how it points out that people may misinterpret the "tolerance" the dog is displaying as enjoyment. Need to know the signs the dog is distressed...
