Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This past weekend we put a deposit down on an English GoldenDoodle male puppy! We are so excited. The mother dog is due to deliver around Sept. 30. This will be our first puppy! Both my husband and I had dogs growning up but it's been a long time. We took in my husband's brother's dog when he had remarried and couldn't take his dog with him, but that dog was older and we only had her for about 1 1/2 years before she died of old age. We have pet parrots that we keep in an enclosed aviary so we know the kind of commitment it takes for a pet. Our son is 9 years old and he can't wait to get the dog! He always loves playing with his friends dogs when he gets the chance. My husband has been researching the perfect dog that he feels would fit our family and decided on a goldendoodle and found a good breeder.
We have about 7-8 weeks to get prepared and get our house ready for a puppy and buy everything we need to bring him home! We have been looking at vets in the area and dog training facilities for when the time comes. We have lots of questions and decisions to make. Once I get a picture of our puppy, I will update my profile picture.
Any good advice is appreciated.

DITTO!! Join the groups and read about all the puppy adventures people have had--and make sure you have a good camera handy! We like pics!
Thanks for the suggestions and I will definitely join those groups!
There is a dog training facility in the same building as my son's gymnastics and we are going to check them out. The owner has been training dogs for 20 years and they offer a Puppy Kindergarten class for dogs 10 weeks to 5 1/2 months!
Great, puppy kindergarten is an awesome thing to do!
Check out pet insurance and make sure you get it from day one.
My husband thinks we can get pet insurance thru his work. He is checking into that and it's a definite on the list.
Go to the pet store. Buy a cart full of the cutest toys. On the way out of the store, throw them all in the trash. Because that's what the puppy will do anyhow. LOL I remember that advice from somebody here on DK when somebody else was asking for advice about preparing for a new puppy.
A friend of mine mentioned she should give us a "puppy shower" since this is our first dog. This would save me from having to buy a lot of toys!
Congratulations! and welcome to DK!
A puppy shower would be awesome! I was surprized at how many gifts I received when we brougtht Quincy home.
Keep us updated!
