Lately I have been wondering if our rule to not let Darwin on the couch is a bad one. We have only see him try to get on the couch twice, once we walked in the room and he was curled up and sound asleep. I would love to have him hop up and cuddle with me rather than having to sit on the floor... but I don't know if this would have negative consequences.
We initially didn't let him up for two reasons.
-We were afraid this would be a big contributing factor to the doggy smell. We bathe him every week, so perhaps this is not really a huge concern.
-I heard some information about how your dog may be confused about his place int he "pack" if you allow him to inhabit all the same spaces as you, such as a couch. Is this just mumbo jumbo in your opinion?

Do you allow your dog on the couch? Do the pros outweigh the cons?

ROFL- the new Doodle Kisses Holiday Song!
The gross Doodle Kisses Holiday Song! You girls are cracking me up!
I let Callie on the sofa. She doesn't leave a doggy odor (or I'm so used to it I don't notice...hmm). She sheds a little bit, but it's completely manageable. The only problem I've encountered is her nails...she's made several flying leaps (do other people's doodles do that, or is Callie also part flying squirrel?) and landed feet first, tearing a couple of holes in the fabric. It looks lovely, and will for a while because the budget just doesn't include a new sofa right now. So...if your sofa is on the older side, beware of strong feet!
What's a little hair and dirt among friends, and our doodles are probably all our best friends. A cover on the couch, a top sheet on the comforter, and it's just a little more laundry. Small price to pay for all the cuddles and companionship.
I feel it's just toooo much effort to keep him off and I really don't mind, as long as he gets down as soon as I tell him to and stays down. Which he does.
Murphy doesn't shed a bit and has no smell that we can tell as he is bathed at least once a week, so it's really just the dirt and grass clippings from coming in and out. Heck, my husband sheds more and smells more and makes more of a mess than the dogs and he's allowed on the couch.
ROFL- perfect!
Haha! So true!
LOL! Good point!
