Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

o.k., so my daughter's standard poodle had to go to the vet this morning due to throwing up bile.   Tests were done and they found he has renal failure.  Has to go in tomorrow morning for dialysis.  Question is, has

any dog owner here gone through this, I know there have been a lot

of health issues, and was hoping for advice.

Yes, sadly we have been through renal failure with our first Doodle.  He was a Chocolate Labradoodle we named Quigley,  we bought him as an 8 week old puppy on Christmas Eve for our 7 year old.  On Christmas Morning he was there in his crate when our daughter walked in the room with a note from "Santa"  to take good care of him.  It was awesome!  Within 2 weeks though I knew something was wrong.  He was sleeping 23 hours a day and not eating.  Tests showed renal failure, we talked with vets, did all the tests, and had him on IV"s and Oxygen for a week.  We chose to put him down after no improvement.   We donated him to the local vet college here and they performed an autopsy which revealed he was born with kidneys- they were the size of a bean, no one knew how he lived as long as he did.   I will be honest, it was horrible and we still miss the little guy.  We waited about six weeks and now have our Cubby doodle, so there is a happy ending!   Good Luck and God Bless, It is not easy.

Sally I am writing to send good wishes to Elliot and a well thought out plan for a continued happy and healthy life for him from his Vets.
