Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After loosing our beloved Luna, I always thought my next doodle was going to be an adoption. We tried for 6 months to find the right adoption situation. Somewhat understandably, rescues are not keen on adopting to households with children. I have girls 8 & 6 so the odds were against us. We finally decided to get our new baby from Luna's breeder. She is still breeding over a decade later. I was so happy when my vet shared how she feels it is just as important to encourage a good breeders success as it is too adopt. We are so happy to have Ghira and to have paid homage to our beautiful Luna and the breeder that brought her into this world. Ghira is doing a great job at filling Luna's huge shoes!!!!

Congrats on your new addition.  Did you have a question?  The title of your post is a question, but I didn't see the question in the actual discussion so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. those are very cute puppy pictures.  She is a beautifl chocolate color.

No question. Just wanted to share my story. It was a question for me for 6 months that through time was answered for me.

It can be very difficult to adopt a dog when you have younger children in your family. I don't think it's a case of one way being "better" or more "important"  when you consider adopting a dog from rescue versus purchasing one from a responsible breeder. There are pros and cons to each, and it's a very personal and individual decision. At any rate, congratulations on your new baby, may you have many, many happy years together.

Congratulations!  I am sure you new addition will bring you as much pleasure as dear Luna did.

Congrats Deanna!!!!!!!

Enjoy Ghira.

Wonderful news....enjoy her!

I agree that both choices are excellent for very different reasons, so when one doesn't work for you, there is always the other option. I love the idea of rescue, in theory. And admire people who do and am happy to hear when it works well for them. As for me, I need as much assurance as possible that I won't be bringing a costly health or discipline problem into my home, both for the existing dogs and for our own sanity. I know there are no guarantees with any dog, but a reputable breeder is as good as its going to get in minimizing those risks, IMHO anyway. Congrats on your new puppy and how nice that your breeder is still producing such quality dogs like your Luna and now Ghira.

Congratulations on finding the perfect addition to your family.

Congratulations and enjoy every minute!!

As most of my Doodle Kisses friends know, Judy and I are deeply into dog rescue.  However, our Holly came from a breeder.  We wanted a doodle puppy so she could grow up with our Maltese but, couldn't find a rscue puppy available.  We are not at all ashamed that we purchased Holly from a breeder and we are very happy that we got such a wonderful doodle.

I'm so glad that you have Ghira...clearly this was the right decision for you.
