Yes, I know, I have the worst groomer luck in the world.  Luckily this time it is not about the haircut itself...So after Murphy's dreaded Schnauzer/flying monkey cut last June I finally found a groomer I like. I started using her last August when Wilson came home.  We have had great results with the exception of the shock of Wilson's first shave down last month and even his Steven Tyler haircut just seemed to fit his personality and I ended up loving it.

The groomer is a mobile groomer and she comes once a month...been coming for 11 months now.  I am never home when she arrives, I just leave her the key to my house, a blank check and a note about what the boys need.

The boys had an appointment this afternoon and Wilson was going to get a feather put in his hair just to perfect his Steven Tyler impersonation.  I always tell the groomer to call my office if she has any questions as I have a dumb phone with no cell reception in my office.  Appointment was at 2:00..no calls.  Perfect.  For some reason I decided to leave early today and when I was walking to my car a text came through.....sorry can't do Wilson's feather, I can't find the tool.  I reply darn it, and ask if she can come by and do it when she finds her tool.   She replys no problem, she will buy new tool.  It does cross my mind for a split second that it is weird she is having this text exchange with me while she is grooming my dog but hey maybe she has a smart phone and isn't punching keys like I am.

Soooo....I get home and notice she has a new grooming mobile.  Good for her, business is growing.  So I send her another text just to let her know that I just pulled in to the garage because I didn't want to startle her.

Her reply is "Actually I am not there, my other groomer is there."

WHAT???????  Maybe I am over-reacting but here are my issues at this point:

She has never had another groomer....no other groomer on her website......never told me about another groomer...has been texting me today while other groomer was at my house  and never mentioned the other groomer...as I am usually not home am pretty sure she was never going to mention the other groomer...So...I left a key under my doormat, a blank check on my dresser, and the care of my doodles in the hands of someone I have trusted for 11 months and it never occurs to her that I may have a problem with some stranger being in my house?????  WTF????

Then...strange groomer comes in with Murphy, I scared her to death as she didn't see me come in.  She thinks she has just groomed Wilson but it was Murph....you know, the little one with the nametag that spells Murphy.  And then I notice the blood all over my wood floors.  Murphy's foot is pouring blood....cut the quick of his toenail.  Got that cleared up, he was fine.  But what if I had come home to blood allover my floor?  I would have had a heart attack.

I haven't yet made the phone call to my Groomer.  Waiting until I become rational.

The only good thing is Wilson looks beautiful and Murphy's cut doesn't suck.

Am I over reacting?

I don't think any rational person would leave their house key and a blank check for a total stranger.  You are not over reacting.

Your regular groomer should know better than to put your property and bank account at risk that way.

no you are not over reacting - letting a stranger (even if they work for someone you trust) in your house while you are not there is not something I would feel comfortable with. Plus, the groomer should have told you before hand that there was going to be a new groomer - its just polite, plus us doodle owners are picky, because, well lets be honest, there have been many known cases of bad doodle haircuts

You are not over reacting at all! I would have had the same fit. The groomer should have told you she is sending a different groomer. WTD? This just drives me up the wall. We don't have a mobile groomer, but our groomer that has been grooming Monty expanded her business and opened a salon close to our house. She also said she would be at this location. For a while she was, but then suddenly there was a different groomer there. I did not know who would be cutting Monty. So I got used to this second groomer since she actually did a pretty good job. A month ago I made an appointment for grooming and when I dropped Monty off, there was YET another completely new groomer. I wanted a very short cut for Monty, so I did not worry too much. My DH picked him up later on just for me to see two stripes from the clippers running along Monty's body!!! So next time he is due for a haircut, I will specifically ask for our old groomer. So no, you are not over reacting. Your situation was much worse than mine and you have every right to be mad.

That is unacceptable for the groomer to let a stranger (to you) use the key to your house and groom your dogs without asking if it is okay with you!!  I would never leave a key for someone I did not know....even if they worked for the groomer that I did know.  I would want to meet them and decide for myself if I was comfortable with them having access to my house when I was not there.  I am basically not a trusting person when it comes to these things.  The way my dog was groomed would be the least of my worries......I would be paranoid about other issues about a stranger in my house.  Just sayin.

Not a bit of overreaction. No one want a complete stranger in the house without the least warning. And she didn't notice she cut the quick Just all around wrong. And I would never leave a blank check, just the right amount. Wrong on a lot of levels.

F, I agree about the correct amount but because Murph spent last week swimming I knew he was matted and she might need to charge me extra.  I was trying to be considerate...see where that got me?

Exactly.

You are not overreacting. What your groomer did is wrong on many levels. You have a right to know who is in your home, and your groomer had an obligation to tell that someone you did not know would be coming into your home, and make sure you were okay with that. You also had an appointment with her, not her employee, and she also had an obligation to ask you if a substitution was okay with you. If you had wanted any strange groomer, you should have been given the option to choose one yourself.

I not only want who I want to groom my dogs, I want who I want to bathe them. I once threw a major fit because the groomer allowed her teenage son to give JD his bath, and given JD's skin issues, that was not okay. So no, I do not think you are overreacting at all.

Can we see pictures?

Karen I was too upset to even take pictures,  Will post some tomorrow.  The cuts aren't bad at all, Wilson's is great....Murph's is okay given how short I have to keep him since he swims all summer. Ears a little long but I will trim them.

I will also post tomorrow to let you know how my conversation goes with the groomer :)

I'm extremely curious about the groomer's explanation tomorrow. The blood was just an "icing on the cake". I hate confrontations so I have no idea what I would have done in a situation like this. I would also be scared that I'm going to lose one good groomer that I have. But apart from that, the whole situation was just totally unacceptable from the groomer's side.

wow--totally crazy considering how much trust you put in the person--and blood all over the floor!? WTD!!?? That should have been taken care of immediately!!

Wow...This actually scares me!  I would be extremely uncomfortable with all of this!  This is not right of her to do at all.  Good luck with your conversation with her & keep us posted!
