I would like to tell you that if you can put on a black shirt and carry your little guy around and not have hairs on you that you will never see any shedding.  However, we have seen just about everything imaginable on here when it comes to shedding.  Some don't in the beginning and then start during the coat change, others are shedding and stop during the coat change.  You just never really know.  If you don't have any shedding right now, you are way ahead of many others.  Hopefully it will stay that way for you.  However, be prepared because many dogs who don't shed do mat more than those who do shed.  So, start now getting him used to being brushed and handled for grooming.  Even if he doesn't need brushed, get him used to the feel of the brush and the comb and having his feet, ears and tail handled.  He sure is a cutie!

I agree Sherri, you never really know. And just when you THINK you know, it changes. All I know is that the shedders don't mat much and the non-shredders do mat more frequently. So pick your poison. Either way, generally doodles don't shed as much as a golden retrievers usually. There are exceptions of course. Either way, small price to pay for such a cutie. Enjoy.

Can't contribute to the shedding question, but can contribute the the compliments.  Fonzie is adorable.

Yeah, it is waaay too early to tell and even the idea that he looks more like a golden right now is not that indicative of the future--true, he is not that curly and won't ever be "poodle-ish" but those wavy hairs can come in and really transform them. You can gently tug on hairs just above his tail on his back and see if you get just a few hairs in your fingers or many--sometimes, that can tell you about the future, but still not that reliable. His coat will totally change as he gets older and will go thru a transition to an adult coat at about 10-14 months.

Here is a picture of a labby labradoodle pup and then the same pup at one year old--you can see how much change occurred! She is just gorgeous!

Ginny, This is the best example of how a lab looking pup can change that I have seen. Good indicator of how hard it is to predict coat. Thanks for posting.

I agree ... somehow we need to mark this pic for future reference.

WOW..that really is a change!!! CUTIE

I LOVE DoodleKisses.. you guys are great! Thanks for the info and the pictures... Fonzie is not at home with us yet still 2 loooong weeks to wait. But I am fortunate enough to live 15 minutes from him so we vist every other day or so ...CANT WAIT!!!!   Again, Thanks for the replies.

Heidi, I have a dog whose coat change was similar to the one Ginny posted. She went from very labby to very fluffy/wavy/shaggy. She sheds a tiny bit--and not at all if I'm vigilant about brushing her and having her groomed (I'm not).

Here she is at three weeks:

and here she is at about 18 months:

So very cute at both ages.

Thank you! I think so too!

Shes a cutie   Wow..... O. K .So as a pup, the only thing I see that were slightly curly are her  ears and as a grown up her ears are the only straight part about her... I love it but the suspense is going to kill me!!  I guess thats part of  the fun of owning a doodle ...
