Start him on the bottom stair, then the next and so on. He will get the hang of it. It is too scary for them to start learing at the top of the staircase. Hope that helps.
Typically you can take their 4 month weight and double it to get their adult weight...+ possibly 5 lbs.
How big were his parents? Your pup's adult weight should be within their parent's weight range (unless ancestors had huge or very tiny members), possibly bigger.
I wouldn't rush teaching him to go down the stairs...he will just do it one day when he is ready and it is safe for him to do so. His weight seems very hardy at 10 weeks for a medium. We have a standard F1 Goldendoodle and I don't think he weighed that at 10 weeks, probably more like 12 lbs. He now weighs 87 pounds at 17 mths old. The rule of thumb is to take their weight at 4 mths, double it and add 5-10 lbs.
Gavin was 17 lbs at 10 weeks. At 6.5 months he was 56lbs. Sorry don't mean to scare you. Medium may be a little optimistic. I enjoyed the fact that he could not go down the stairs for a while - he would do the three stairs to the back door for the longest time before he tackled the longer run of stairs to the basement. I think I just put him on the leash and led him down.
Yeah, I don't want to scare you either but...

Darwin was sixteen pounds at twelve weeks. he's now sixty pounds at nine months.
Winston was 15 pounds at 8 weeks. He is now 17months old and 75 pounds. He was 62 at 6 months and as you can see he slowed way down. Winston was holding at 72 until last month. He is a big boy and because of his coat people always think he is heavier than he is. His breeder thought he would be close to 90+ pounds at maturity.
Porter was 25 lbs at 14 weeks.
He is 63 lbs at 1 1/4 yrs old and has weighed that since 10-11 months.
His parents were only 40 lbs, but the breeder said, 55-60 for him. So a pretty accurate prediction.
We had to carry Dexter down the stairs for quite awhile (we still laugh at it now). One day he just started doing it. We did not force him but it took until he was probably ~4 months old.
Chewie is a mini. At 10 weeks he was about 10 lbs. He is currently almost 10 months and weighs 23 -24 lbs and hasn't varied from this much in the last few months. His weight gain completely slowed down around 5 months and stopped around 6-7 months.
This is good to know. Chewie is almost 6 months now and he is all ready 34 lbs. So hopefully he is about done growing !!! He is the perfect size now.
