Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I attended a doodle romp a couple of days ago and someone mentioned putting your dog in a warm bath paw-deep to melt the snow clumps. Well, I had my chance to try it out today. Darwin loves the snow, he ran and played and when he came in... his paws were outrageous! I now know what you are all talking about when you say that snow clumps in the fur. We "dipped" him in a warm bath and it worked great. The clumps melted immediately so he only had to stand in it for a second. His paws dried in a jiffy after I towel dried them.

I'm glad my suggestion worked well for you (I got the idea from Carla & Lucca). We also did the same thing today with Muppet and it worked beautifully for us too. We got snowfall in our area today, so we took Muppet out to play in the snow (he loved it) and he came in with clumps of snow stuck all over his feet and legs. The water doesn't need to be deep, and it only takes a second for the snow clumps to melt right off. Plus I think the temperature of the water probably warms up their cold feet and legs!
I just use a bowl of warm water and a towel at the back door and do them one at a time then towel dry and off they go.
I will use this advice too I am not ready for any snow here in Green Bay It can wait

I use warm water to get Wilson's paws clean after playing in the mud too he is a little hesitate but I think with time it will get better have a great doodle morning
Theres a new product called the Paw Plunger. I havent used it personally but we sell it at work and have had lots of interest from it. Its a tub (comes in small medium and large) with bristles at the top. You fill it with water and put your dogs paw in it. It washes off the mud. Used with warm water it should work for snow too.

WOW! Snow already?! We had a "spring-like" day here in New York, but I am sure snow is not far behind! Actually I just posted a question about the very thing last week! Never thought of putting her feet in warm water, but I will try it now. I'm assuming the difference in temperature on her feet is tolerated okay. Guess you could probably use a wet -warm towel and melt the snow off her belly and tail as well??? Whenever she gets wet tho' I worry about her matting, but maybe I'll try that with spraying the Bark2Basics on her after. Thanks for the idea!
We also had a spring like day here in Toronto Shelly. Last year, on November 25th, we brought home our Goldendoodle when he was 8 weeks old. Burkharts farm had at least 2 ft of snow and we had about a foot here. The pup loved it-wish I had thought of the warm water trick then. I hear that the mild weather is caused by El Ninio or something like that and that it only happens every 5-7 yrs. I hope it sticks around until March/April.
I'm with YOU! Last winter was so cold here, I can only imagine how it was there. We usually put an ice rink up in our yard during the winter and of course, last year we didn't and it was the coldest winter in years. The year before we had it all up and ready water in it early and..., we mostly just had one really large "pond". Gotta' admit tho' I do like SOME snow... just not too much.
Yeah, the water wasn't actually that warm. Just a little warmer than luke-warm as we didn't want to shock his paws. It melted right off. Yep. here in Utah we have snow. Not much yet, but we do have it. Darwin loves it!
