we went for the lion look because Midas is ALWAYS very hot, also his beard was always getting wet and dirty and so this is cleaner for him.. also we think he looks pretty cool! nothing wrong with looking like a goldendoodle.. its like how some people like short hair some like long. thats all

Well that cut is certainly an attention-getter.  Your groomer must be very talented to do such a precision cut.  If this is the look you are after, I doubt you will find anyone else who would do it better.  Best not to raise a stink about the lashes IMO.

yea i didnt lol..because i think they did a beautiful job!

Obviously this idea was born out of the article this month on the labradoodle who was mistaken as a lion. please re-read this discussion, as there were some thought provoking concerns regarding this. http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/outstanding-ld-mistaken-fo...

Shaving him down for coolness and sanitary reasons is appropriate and responsible dog ownership. Shaving him to look like something he's not for the owners entertainment is neither. This is not a short hair vs long hair issue at all. I am feeling very sad for Midas to be honest with you, as he will be stared at and made fun of for no reason of his own doing.
Yes, some people might say how "cool" it looks, but ask them if they'd do it to THEIR dog. I'd love to have been a fly on the groomers wall as they were doing this "cool" cut. I'm sure they all got a good laugh. Poor Midas. But he's your dog and you have every right to do what you want with him. And bottom line is he is not harmed or neglected in anyway so maybe I should keep my opinion to myself. I just don't have to like it or agree with it and I felt this needed to be said.
Sandy, I liked your earlier comment about "circus dog". Art form? Heck, some people think tattooing and piercing every inch of their body is an art form. Should we do that to dogs too?
Nancy, you live in California, so I think you are immune to "crazy" lol. I have given Murphy a Mohawk while grooming him just for giggles. For all of about 10 minutes. I guess I'll never be "hip" or "cool" and certainly left twenty something long behind.

We met a person who gives her dood a mohawk.  It actually is very cute on him and I guess a personal statement from a young, hip twenty something woman.

In Hurleys case that makes sense.

I think all of these comments are quite the overreaction. The lion cut isn't that crazy for a dog, multiple breeds are traditionally cut this way, including the PWD that looks very doodley.

I just have to clarify... do all of you actually think that dogs get embarrassed because of being shaved down? That idea is... ludicrous. Why would they care how they are shaved, they don't know what is "normal" as far as doodle haircuts go and what isn't I'm sure Midas is comfortable that he's shaved down and nothing more.

I agree Camilla, I don't think it's that big of a deal. I think they might feel a bit odd at first because they are not used to feeling so breezy, lol, but I doubt they are embarassed.

But of course this would also hold true for a regular haircut, even a "traditional doodle" haircut.

Especially a shave down! Ha ha, you can ask Daisy.

The picture of the pwd looks much better and perfectly normal compared to Midas and for the record, I don't think they are embarrassed or know the difference in cuts. I do know that they can sense when humans are afraid, or mean to them,(possibly because of how they look) and they can react to that. I agree, he probably feels more comfortable shaved down, so finish what was started and let him enjoy it all over. Also, this just hit my "over-reaction" button today. It's been awhile since its been hit so I'm going with it.
