I am continually amazed at the things these doodles do. On Christmas morning the doodles and I went to the tree to see what Santa had left for us. For Bingley who is 9 months old it was his first Noel and all was new to him.

For Welly it was his second Christmas and he knew exactly what presents were. I said to him - okay - go and find your present. So he sniffed all the presents under the tree and managed not only to find a 'dog present' but the one with his name on it!

Now this pressie contained a rubbery ball type toy - so he could tell it was something he would like. But later the same day there was one more Welly pressie on the tree. It was higher up and said in large bold letters To Welly. He sat at the tree staring up at his pressie until we gave it to him. Our friends were amazed to see this dog staring at the present with his name on =). This one had a soft toy in it so no rubber or treats to smell.

When it was time for the doodles dinner they were both gobbling away hurridly. Bingleys bowl was being pushed closer and closer to Wellys. Welly (liking his space at meal times) paused, cafefully picked up the side of his bowl (not spilling it's contents) and took 4 steps backwards. He then placed his bowl back on the floor and now at a safe distance from brother Bingley he continued to munch his dinner. Amazing - thought I.

Welly is definately extremely intelligent (Bingley not so much!). Welly is a Goldendoodle and the first GD I fostered did a similar thing. His bed was the other side of the room to where I was sat. He wanted to be close to me but also on his comfy bed. I looked at him and could see his dilema as he looked between me and his bed. His solution? He went to his bed and dragged it across the floor next to me. There he curled up comfortably next to me in his bed. Never had I seen a dog work out a problem so effectively.

Aren't doodles amazing!?

I really think that they have something beyond a 6th sense - its a "doodle sense" that never ceases to amaze me!!
I love your stories of Welly and his pressies!! And his bowl!!  Sometimes Tara will do something similar and I can't help but wonder if I don't grossly underestimate her ablilities!!  Smart Doods!!
Yes, indeed they are.
I have to agree that Doodles have a sixth sense, and they really do think and work out a problem...Oliver does and it amazes me that he is just so smart....
Wow...that is one smart Dood!!!
Yes, they are very smart doods!  Charlie did something similar.  On Christmas Eve my husband put out all the presents that had come in the mail for the whole family under the tree.  He and my daughter were in the other room and I was in the bedroom wrapping our presents for under the tree.  None of us were paying much attention to Charlie.  In comes Charlie to the bedroom with a toy I had never seen before and he had a big doodle smile on his face, like he was showing me a new found treasure.  I went out to the family room and asked the others if they gave Charlie a present and no one had.  I couldn't find any torn up paper and couldn't figure out where the toy had come from.  A little later my daughter found the opened wrapping paper by the front door.  It appears Charlie went through the presents under the tree, found the one my mother had sent him, took it to another room, opened it, then brought it in to show me!  We all had a good laugh.  They are amazing animals.

Love this story! Charlie is one smart cookie =)

I am sure that many pooches would randomly unwrap every present. But the doods try to make sure they only pick the right ones!

Such intelligent doodles!  In our household, our GR is the brain and the GD is the brawn.

Yep - since I wrapped our presents (10 days before Christmas) Rouser would go stick his nose into his bag of presents after eating dinner. I don't know why he would pick after dinner as "his time," but it was consistent. I guess he could smell the pet store.  It was really cute.

He's also a bed dragger.  It started when he was just a little puppy (maybe 4 or 5 months old). I couldn't figure out why his bed was always in the middle of the family room until, one day, I saw him tugging and tugging on his bed to drag it from the corner of the room to the lone sun beam coming through the window.  That melted my heart.

Love your sunbeam story. I can just picture him and it is the cutest sight! =)

I can't say I've ever been surprised by Darwin's intelligence... LOL. But I have been surprised by the sharp as a tack doodles I have read about here on DK. There are some doodle geniuses here! Darwin surprises me daily with his loving goofy self though, and that is more than I could ask for. :-)
