I picked up my big goofball this morning. He has a cone, and has already sliced up the back of my legs with it. I anticipate some paint touch-ups by the time our four days of cone time is done.
The vet sent the thing away to pathology, but doesn't think it was anything to worry about. Just "one of those things" that happens sometimes. Toby is on Rimadyl once a day for pain, and Novolexin as an antibiotic because he's done the self surgery at home. :) The bandaid and cone come off on Monday and the stitches come out in 10 days. He's limping, but I would be too if I was walking on a foot I had stitches in. I'm glad to have him home!
They said he was a doll - not that that surprised me. :) However, being the klutz that he is, he spilled all his food and stepped in the water dish, causing them to have to change his bandaid again before he came home today.

Dr. Toby decided to perform his own surgery: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/so-self-surgery
When Izzy had her spaying and elbow surgery they gave her Acepromazine. We called it doggy Valium. It calmed her so she could relax. It worked very well. It helped her and us get through those post surgery days:)
Do you have a diagnosis? The reason I was asking is that Izzy had these growths under the skin on her elbows that we discovered when she was 5 months old. They diagnosed them as calcium deposits (calcinosis circumscripta). When I researched this before her surgery it showed dogs that had these growing on the toes also.
He said he thought it was cutaneous horn - like someone on here suggested. Basically a big corn.
Toby is on pain killers once a day and an antibiotic. I don't know if I need to phone the vet and ask about something else or not. He's not running around or anything, just panting his head off.
Poor guy. The Ace was more for her running around as a puppy does. Trying to keep a 5 month hyper puppy down for 6 whole weeks was pretty challenging and extremely stressful for her and me:)
But for Toby the Ace might help him with nighttime sleep. Sometimes panting like that can mean they are uncomfortable. Just a thought.
I think some of the panting might be because he doesn't like the cone and can't quite get comfortable. He only has the cone and bandaid on until Monday, so I guess I can hang on until then. He gets the stitches out a week from Monday, so I'm not sure how I'll get him to leave it alone until then. An old sock, maybe?
I can't even fathom keeping a 5 month old puppy calm for 6 weeks. Oh my goodness.
