My 5 month doodle can barely see. I'm trying to trim a little around his eyes, but the shorter I go, it seems that the hair sticks up in his eyes more! I'm looking for help with specific methods to clear his eyes so that he can see and I won't make him look silly. Thanks!!!

Why don't you post a photo? That way we can get some specific ideas as to his coat and what the problem is.
I trim Dex and Kirby's eye hair a lot.  I just grab the hair and trim...I cut it as short as I can.  I especially trim the area between their eyes.
I realized I made it sound like I just cut haphazardly.  I do keep the sharp part away from their eyes and cut very carefully :)  I also have my husband hold their heads still.
Using the safety, "eye scissors"  I hold our Doodles' heads and angle the scissors DOWNWARD and INWARD trimming on the diaganal.  this keeps the hair growing towards the outside of the eye...not sticking up towards the eye itself.

Hope this helps..

The other trick is to cut a "bridge" right between the two eyes at the top of the snout. Cut the hairs there really short--like a 1/2 inch long, but only cut the hairs that are in line with the eyes--don't go up on to the top of the head or brow. Those hairs can be cut like long bangs and they will naturally fall over the bridge of short hairs like a waterfall. The short hairs on the bridge will keep hairs from sticking into and over the eyes. You can see the shorter hairs in this close up of my Mattie--but they had grown out a bit at this point and were shorter when first cut.

Here is another photo of a dog I had just groomed and you can see how there is very little right between the eyes.

Hope that helps!

I think cutting short between the eyes will cure this as Ginny said. Also, you can have your photo open right in your response if you use the second icon above the response and paste the location there.
thanks for the photo hint.. still learning on this site!
I use the thinning shears around and between the eyes and it gives a much more fringed and not so blunt cut so it won't stick up so much. I give a much more natural appearance and you can certainly cut a lot closer and not worry about it looking choppy. Do you have any?
I have them on order.. hope they will get here soon!
I just did my two yesterday, so I will post a picture when they get back from their walk with DH.
