so the latest update is:
He is in Chicago right now, booked on a flight to Boston at 3:59 central time.
I would say there is a 90% chance it gets cancelled - dunno why its not cancelled yet - but it's not.
I he gets on that, I will be waiting for him at Boston.
If he doesn't, there are soooooo many great people, new friends, and doodle step parents willing to help out.
The story the news should cover is the way ppl band together on this site to help pets - screw the airport
Thanks for keeping us updated Larry...I keep hitting the refresh button just waiting to hear the latest...sending good thoughts for his safe arrival in your arms:)
I am following this from California and I am sending my prayers for a successful puppy pick-up.
if he doesn't get on this next flight - I am working on having someone from DK watch him for the eveneing.
But it sounds easier said than done!
They're saying for someone with a different name to get him, I would have to get all new customs paperwork ect.
Trying to figure out that now - just to be safe.
Person from the airport also told me - if he has to stay the night, its some brand new state of the art kennel they have at the airport - whatever that mean :(

I think my fear of letting a puppy this young staying in a kennel at an airport is that it is not fully vaccinated. It sounds like they have all different species and breeds stay there so you do not know what could be laying around for the puppy to come in contact with. I think if you can make it happen your best option is to have someone from DK take him home and keep him for the night or how ever long you need for you to come get him. Also I would be have a very blunt and honest talking to with your breeder!
yes I know - this has turned into a worse possible scenario for me.
I've old both the airport, and kennel staff not to let the dog in contact w other animals.
Larry, I would not count on anyone at the airport to care for this puppy in any way, shape or form.
My understanding is that that "state of the art facility" was constructed by United a while back because they were flying so many pets they determined it would be more efficient to operate their own kennel that to have to outsource to local kennels as they had previously been doing. I don't think it has actually improved their mortality rates. I read an article about this a while back. I don't remember the exact numbers but I remember concluding I would never trust them with an animal.
He'll be staying here if he doesn't make it home tonight
Larry, this looks lovely but United has a ways to go to convince me that they (or any airline) can really be trusted to match their advertising. My 2 cents, for what it's worth, is that if Linda can get the puppy and take him home where he can wait for you, the pup will have a better shot and be better cared for then leaving him in United's care…especially when there's so much airport confusion because of the weather and his exposure to other dogs is high.
