Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

hi everyone,

just joined 2day!

I have been looking to get a labradoodle or a goldendoodle and everytime i  metionn it on the net it is met with mass negativity about how i shouldnt even consider getting one of these breeds ( or non breeds as i have been told a million times lol )and why dont i just get a poodle. how they are aggresive and not good with kids, i could go on forever!

So i thought i would ask ppl who actually have one and not the ppl who have never had one but seem to have very strong opinions on doodles!

I love the shaggy bear like look, we are a family of me,my parter and have 2 kids jordan 4 1/2 and ella 8months, and i want to make sure they are good with kids, i know it has alot to do with how they are brought up ect aswell i guess im just after your honest opinions.

thanks

So what are the traits of you golden or labra temperment, shedding, ect?

Darwin is an f1 Goldendoodle, standard. He's a year and a half. He is great with kids, although I don't think every doodle is automatically good with kids or not. Their temperament seems to lean that way, as Labs Goldens and Poodles are all known to be good family dogs. But I think a big part is the way you introduce them, and train them to be around kids. You have to set rules for both the kids and the dogs as far as how to treat each other. Darwin hardly sheds, nothing on our furniture or clothes really. Just a few hairs here or there. We brush him 30 minutes or so every night or else he gets matted. He's very trainable and sweet and loves attention.
Did you get a puppy?
I have a 5 year old labradoodle, and she is the best dog I have ever had. Literally, she is the most perfect dog on earth. She never chewed up things as a puppy, was house trained very easily, plays well with other dogs, loves all people, and if she talked, none of us would be surprised. I could go on and on because she is a once-in-a-lifetime awesome dog. She is also like a walking teddy bear and gives the best hugs. She knows when I am sad and tries to cheer me up. I have nothing negative to say about her. I know that labradoodles are not a 'real' breed, but my dog is AWESOME!!!!!!

We just adopted a goldendoodle in July. She is very different. Her 'doodle' never arrived, so she looks and acts like a golden. She is very different from my labradoodle, more like a dog and less like a human...haha. The jury is still out on this new pup, mainly because it is very hard for her to live up to labradoodle's perfection. I am learning to love her for her own self and to not compare her to the labradoodle.

My experience thus far is that the labradoodle is much more 'chill" than the goldendoodle. I wonder if others (who may have both kinds of doodles) would agree?

Not sure what you mean about the "chill" of the labradoodle...I think every dog is different and I know some pretty hyper labs. But if your new "goldendoodle" pup is rambunctious, playful, and feisty....that was what mine was like as well as being smart, sweet and loving. Thomas just turned 2... and I can tell u I have never seen or heard of a smarter, sweeter and more "humanlike" dog. Also I know many Golden Retreivers... they are all wonderful dogs...so I am not quite sure what you mean about your pup being more "golden" as a negative thing.
Two mini GD's in the family at present and the fact that we will be going to the airport tomorrow to pick up number 3 should be testament to the fact that these are the best pets ever. One lives full time with my granddaughters at their home and two will be here with me. Right now I have my two granddaughters visiting for the day and Maggiedoodle loves having them here. My experience with GD and children has been wonderful. When looking for a pup I researched with two criteria in mind - non- shedding and good with kids. GDs meet both criteria on paper and in person.

I have had other dogs in the past who were just that - dogs. Yes we loved them and they were part of the family but there is something more special about GDs. They are everyone's friend and everyone loves them back. Can't go wrong with a GD.
We've had other dogs in the past as well...and...they were JUST dogs. We loved them and they added something to our lives yes, but our goldendoodle Banjo is the BEST DOG EVER. We say it every day. DH and I could never have hoped for such a fabulous dog. His temperment, his looks, his non-shedding, his silliness....he is so well balanced and just GREAT to have in our lives. Perfect strangers fall in love with him. He loves strangers, kids and other dogs and even cats. Not sure how it could be better than this. I think these traits are found in a higher percentage of GD's and LD's than most other breeds. But what do I know. I'm just so happy to have Banjo!
Ditto here Carol...Thomas is the best dog ever....aren"t they just so sweet...smart and good looking?
