It's Spring in the air, (not the temperature), and we have lots of thawing going on in our yard where our Doodles run and play.  Well, our Sydney is ripping out the few pieces of grass we have left from the tough summer and trecherous winter.  She is chomping on the dirt.  Why, why, why is Sydney enjoying the dirt so much when we just finished giving the Doodles a great dinner followed by a raw carrot and fat free plain yogurt.  YIKES!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, maybe we should stop buying that healthy kibble, healthy treats and special water for the Doodles.  We will just dig holes in the ground and hawl in the mud.  Yes, MUD PIES!  That's for dinner tomorrow night, girls!  And we will have OUR MARGARITAS to celebrate spring!  Oh, those Doodles of ours, they are just way too much maintenance............
The little doodle puppy we are sitting in a couple of weeks also loved the bits of grass poking out from under the lawn when he came for a play the other day. He looked so cute with little bits of grass hanging from his chin.
Yes, I understand that sometimes dogs will eat grass to settle their stomach if they have some digestive problem.  That seems OK, but pulling out pieces of grass and chomping on the dirt, that's another story.  Oh, those Doodles (i.e.: our Doodles)  have some strange habits!!!!
Toby eats dirt consistently.  His water dish is always muddy.  :)  He gets good food (Acana), so I know he's not lacking nutrients.....he just likes to eat dirt, I guess.
Finley loves to eat dirt. I feed him Orijen and give him fish oil everyday, but boy does he love to munch on dirt clods. He carries them in his mouth and chews on them. He is always digging in our garden area (planted with flowers and plants) to get dirt. I have not seen any worms in our yard because we have hard clay soil.  We call him "Pica" as a nickname because it is a syndrome where people eat non-nutrient substances such as dirt.
It just drives us crazy because we think we are not feeding them properly.  We worry more about their diets than our own diets.  YIKES!!!!  They eat Canine Caviar which we have reserched to death, they get a half of a raw carrot after dinner {(for their teeth) and a couple of spoonfulls of fat free plain yogurt to help with ear yeast.  We recently started adding supplements to their drinking water for their teeth.  We bought antler ears for their teeth.  We give our Doodle Sydney, EPO, since she seems to have some allergy issues.  So why eat the dirt?????  When we were in PA, and had a huge yard which we had sodded for our Doodles, they were digging holes all over the place.  They found a turtle under our deck.  We started putting red hot pepper on the holes to prevent them from digging and they found new places to dig.  Our Olivia even kissed a frog in our yard......(scary, check out our blog on our page....too funny!)

Before Holly was 6-months old, she would pull up clods of grass and eat the dirt.  This would result in awful diarrhea.  We didn't want to let her out in the yard because of her eating dirt. So we would have her on a flexi-lead.  She would still try to eat the dirt like it was filet mignon.  We were recommended an electronic training collar.  Two zaps at the very lowest intensity stopped the dirt eating for good...
