Zach had his first grooming appointment today. He started the morning looking like this:
I was hoping that she could take him down to 1 inch. But he had mats that I did not know about. I knew he had some under his chin, because he really hates having his face combed, but I thought I had really done a good job of staying on top of things. Apparently not, the groomer spent a lot of time showing me the areas of his coat that had mats that I was not aware of, and spent time teaching me the proper way to brush, comb and demat (is that a word) his coat, so I can keep up with it as it grows out. I've had short haired dogs for 20 years and never had a dog with a curly coat, so I learned a lot today, and Zach got a COMPLETE make over - From shaggy to sophisticated
A shout out to Lynn at Wags and Whiskers in Albuquerque. Although it is short I think she did a great job and that he is a handsome Dood!

Yes, there is a word demat... not sure if it is in the dictionary but it is definitely used in the Grooming Group! ;o)
Zach looks very handsome. You have found a wonderful groomer to carefully explain the brushing and combing techniques for doodles.
Very nice job, love that she saved the tail. Daisy has been in this same situation, never again.
You are right he now has a very sophisticated look, handsome and happy.
