I am 70 and single, but in good health, active and walk daily with Ozzie. We also do long hikes when we go to doggie camp in the summer (2-3 hours or more on mountain trails.) I know that Ozzie…Continue

Little terriers require much less exercise than medium to large size doodles, though. They can run inside your house, lol.
My parents were about 70 when they got their second Westie and they did just fine. She was a pill as a pup. They did not do a good job with leash training her though, but since she was small it wasn't the problem that a big dog might be.
Exercising them is definitely easier when there are multiple dogs of similar ages and a fenced yard; then they can exercise themselves.
Judy, the DRC is also a good source for adoptable doodles. The doodles currently available are on the front page of DK. Also on their website they list other doodles who are not in their program but who are available for adoption from other rescues or who are in shelters. Here is the link to the CA region:

Please remember that a dog in rescue or shelter does not mean the dog has faults. Dogs are surrenders for numerous reasons, often a change in the owner's circumstances that causes them to no longer be able to care properly for the dog. Many rescues such as the DRC will match a doodle's temperament, etc with your household as they are able to take time to evaluate them before placement.
I know we're in for a busy, crazy time. But, all our family are dog lovers, and we tradeoff when it comes to needing a 'break'. Willy and Lili do not seem to need a huge amount of exercise, other than the yard and walks. The new puppy, hopefully, will take her cue from them. I do know there will be times when I'll doubt my sanity, but hopefully past experiences will pay off. I hope I'm not in for any surprises. lol Of course when I need help, there is always DK to the rescue
Wish me luck! <3
Judy - As far as where to find and older doodle, you might want to check out the following: http://www.idogrescue.com/
Good luck!
I'm 66 and DH is 69 and we KNOW that we're not going to be able to do puppies again. Guinness (mini almost 4) would be so easy at our age. He needs lots of stimulation but not that much actual vigorous exercise. Murph (our "big guy") still needs a tremendous amount of physical and mental exercise. We do Daycare twice a week, long walks every non-Daycare day, and we take him to places where he can run off leash at least two to three days a week. We also use the treadmill a few times a week. I'm so hopeful that as he gets older the exercise requirements will be less. I'm having trouble picturing DH and I in a few years doing the long "hikes" with Murphy. I do know of a few dog walkers in our area who actually jog or roller blade with dogs...that's always an option for Murphy if we need it.
I turned 70 two weeks ago and Lily Grace turned 5 months last Friday. I am alone and in good health. I thought I was prepared as I brought a puppy home 6 years ago. You just never know what you are going to get. Cassie was a calm sweet puppy, no chewing, biting and was easy to train and leave when I had to. Lily is a sweet puppy, very active, smart, easy to train, chewed my hands until I had scabs and wants to play all the time. The first 2 months were tough. She is a mini and will be about 30 pounds when grown so this means, training, training, training. At 75 I will not be able to have a dog that is not well behaved. That being said, there are days I am exhausted and think "what did I do" but as long as I am able I will have a dog sleeping on my feet.
So how does one find a good 3 or 4 year old Labradoodle?
