Does anyone have any helpful hints on getting your dog to do the see-saw? Guinness loves his agility class is does well on everything, except the see-saw. He'll only go half way up then bails before it tips. The only way we can get him to do it is if we have someone on each side to actually prevent him from jumping off. I've tried treats, but even that doesn't work. This is the only activity he doesn't like or is actually uncomfortable with.

Guinness had his second agility class today...he is 7 mos old. He does really well, and seems to love the agility. The problem is that he gets so excited, he seems to have a hard time with his obedience. He's in his second level obedience now, and has been doing fantastic. The problem is at the agility class there are eight dogs, and lots of chaos. He has to wait between exercises for all the other dogs to have their turns, and he gets very excited. I feel like I am correcting him constantly. Has anyone else had this problem? The other thing I've noticed is in obedience class he stays very focused on me, but in agility he's focusing on the other dogs and what they're doing. His attention span in this environment is terrible!

Thanks! That helps me to know. So when she starts the training, I would not have unrealistic expectations!

I went to see the agility show yesterday! I saw the begginer's competition, but they all did a really nice job! I wonder how long does it take to get the dogs to that level?

She does really well at whatever she is being taught. Picks it up quickly as well.
She is a bit afraid of men. My neighbors, mail man, etc... all try to approach her nicely, offering some kibbles, but she backs off from them. So, that will be the area she will need to work on for CGC.....

She can absolutely do both at the same time. If she has passed basic, she could probably pass CGC without further training unless she needs more socialization.

I saved on my favorite!! I have been practicing recall just by randomly calling her every now and then at home and rewarding her with kibbles. I can modify that to fit more to what Susan Garrett is talking about. She is finishing up the basic obedience in a week, and moves on to CGC class. I am thinking that after CGC, she can do the agility... or do you think she can do it while in CGC? She is now 7 1/2 months old.

Same with Gracie, our beginning classes were all on leash. She just started advanced a few weeks ago. Some people use leashes, some not, just depending on how that particular dog is. We do practice inside in a large training room. Them we move outside to a course that is fully fenced. In the course only 1 dog and owner run the course at a time so the area is all theirs. I find Gracie does not run in there because we all move so fast. But I still keep her on lead for much of it.
It is lots of fun!

Oh, This is helpful. I am going to check out the DVD and practice the focus with her!

We don't have our doodle yet (born in July, hope to bring her home in Sept.) but once she is old enough we would love to take agility classes with her. I've never participated in agility before, so I am looking forward to learning more here.
