Mimi, congratulations on your soon to be ALD. My Lily Grace is a 14 weeks old mini/medium ALD. She is sweet but she is a active, get into everything puppy. You have so much fun to look forward to.

Sue, I'm so happy for you...finally having Lily Grace with you.  If there's an 80/20 rule in training a pup, I think "focus" is the 80%.  Finn's "focus" and the "look" command before "sit" or "leave it," etc. has gotten us through a lot of tight situations now that he's an adult.  I wish you much happiness as you bond with Lily Grace.

Barb, Amen to that and all the good breeders. Lily does have that attention and focus to me. She has eaten, pooped and peed outside and is now sound asleep at my feet. I am overjoyed. I will wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Sue, remember that dogs and especially puppies do not generalize. Have you heard the saying 'proof your dog in different locations"?

Means they have to relearn a skill in every location until they are old enough to start generalizing. ie can do the skills they know no matter where they are.

You will have to 'reteach' the skills but at least it is easier to 'proof' your puppy than it is to teach them the first time.

We have sent out 200 puppies from here and work with each one of them before they go. It does help the new owners. Once a new owner called me and said she didn't know what to do because the puppy just sat at her feet all the time and stared at her. She wasn't able to appreciate the great focus the pup had. lol

Congratulations Sue.  You must be soooo excited.  It sounds like you have sent Lily Grace to the socialazation specialist.  We are thinking the same thing.  It sounds like it is worth it.  I am sure she will give you all the help you need to keep up the training.  Enjoy your puppy.  Lots of pictures please.

Lily Grace is coming home today. I cannot wait another week. I have been told that she is potty trained, sleeps in her crate, knows sit/stay and come and is very smart. I could be in big trouble, she is 10 weeks old today. I will have to make sure I know how the breeders are training her so I can continue to get the same success. I have been up for hours already and am beyond myself with excitement.
