Joan, good luck to you and Treasure on Monday! How exciting!! I know it is naughty but it did crack me up to read about his pick pocket skills!!  We go through the same thing with Tara and people encouraging her bad behavior! I think most doodle owners have that problem because let's face it-doodles are pretty irresistible!!! :)

Good luck on the CGC test on MOnday.  I have a similar ALD and he is so active that people just have a hard time handling him.  Yesterday we met an old friend and her two small dogs for a walk down the creek bed at a local housing area.  When Harpo saw her get out of the car with two dogs, he ran over and ran around her legs.  My other dog was attached to the same leash and they wound her up with the leash.  So we had a group including a 71-yr-old friend and four dogs that I had to get under control and separated.  What a way to start a walk!

Our ALD is 2-1/2 years old.  And knock on wood, so far, he has been pretty healthy.  When he was a puppy, we had problems with him having a sensitive stomach.  Everytime he would have an episode, we would have to give him chicken and rice for a few days until he was normal.  Tried several dog foods.  There was one prescription dog food that worked but was really expensive.  Then we found one called Sensi-Bites by Regal and he does great on that one.  Never did find out exactly what was causing it.  The doctor said he may grow out of it and seems to have done just that.  I put cheese, chicken, green beans, mixed in his foood.  He gets treats and bully sticks and doesn't really get sick.  He was also neutered very young - I think at 6 or 7 weeks.  I too wonder what affect that could have.  Hopefully none....

@Joan, I think by the age of 3 the joints and bones are pretty well formed. I'm not sure adding a dietary supplement would be of value. It looks like Treasure is a medium sized doodle too so the lower body weight should help take stress of the joints. Have fun at the beach!! I'm soooo jealous!!!

Simon is my 2 yr old ALD. He is healthy as a little horse. Connor is my F1 goldendoodle and he, too, has never had any health problems.

@Joan & Treasure: How old is Treasure now? Wellness is a good and complete brand of good and if Treasure is doing well with it in regard to the other issues than I would stick with that for sure. I really don't know that there has been enough research done on early spay/neuter to be able to say for certain how it will effect dogs in the short and long term. And as with other issues, genetics, diet, environment all come into play in determining your dogs overall health.  I think it is always a good precaution to be cautious with the joints of large breed dogs when they are in the growing stage whether they had early or late spay/neuter.

Although Nugget has had her share of skin problems, she has never had any digestive issues.  She has been fed a raw diet since she was weaned from her mum. (We buy BRAVO raw complete blends.)  This has worked well for her.  According to her vet dermatologist, Nugget's skin issues are not at all related to her food.  They are "inhalant" allergies.  (Just fyi....of the 27 things she was allergy tested for, she was allergic to 26....tobacco was the only thing she wasn't allergic to.  Nugget lives in a smoke-free home, so not being allergic to tobacco hasn't helped her much I'm afraid! :-) )

Mya is an ALD and now 3 yrs old.  She was purchased from a very good breeder in Canada.  She was spayed @ 6 weeks. She has had no health problems.  She just gets her regular shots once a year.  She is very lively, happy and outgoing.  Mya goes everywhere with me.  I see no problems with her hips or any other issues that seem to be in question when they are spayed early.  I also did not let her do heavy running and jumping as that is bad for many breeds till they are over 2 years of age to help ensure proper bone and mussle growth.  Everyone who meets Mya seams to love her but I do have to say, that there has not been a doodle that I have met that I did not love with or without issues.  My other dog Kasey makes up for the health issues that Mya does not have. At least with all the new medications and new technology we can help our dogs with issues to help make their lives as normal as possible. :)
