Hi. New to this group so I don't know if I'm being redundant in asking if you all have a tried & true way to prevent mats on your doodles. Axl has been groomed once at the beginning of the summer…Continue

I don't think line brushing gets rid of knots I think you have to use a comb to get rid of knots but if line brushing was done with a comb I suppose it could get rid of knots. Ya, If she is too knotted the guard won't work. Thanks for the wishes of good luck but we are thinking that we are going to cut his hair but leave it a bit longer than one inch. Maybe about 4 inches (His hair is about 8 inches now).

Thanks Taylor, been awhile since I posted this so I forgot. Now I came back on to see what I can do because It's less than 2 weeks and it's like she has knots everywhere under her fluff. So I don't know if she really got down to the skin, she said she does line brushing and she worked at her for a long time. I'm really upset about the knots and they probably hurt her. So I think if we need to shave her we need to do it before it gets too warm out! Thanks for the info on the guard she was talking about, probably won't work if the knots are against the skin anyway. I have heard of the scissor cutting we'll check into that. Thanks and good luck with Huff I'm sure he'll still look like a stud!

She probably meant a duck blade. The duck blade is like an extension to the actual blade. The longest is 1 inch so I am guessing she is saying she will have to be cut pretty short since her hair is too thick to use any of the duck blades. Maybe you could just take her somewhere that they specialize in scissor cutting. Then you could have it shorter but not too short. It will probably be more expensive but it night be worth it to check.

So Myla had a brush out appointment this week, I worked on her the best I could on Saturday, she had all kinds of tangles on her belly and joints. The little devil only tolerated so much before she bit me hard in the hand. So that was enough, I told her Heather can do it then! (groomer) I was so afraid that she would be shaved again she was a mess. We asked her if we should trim her down and not to the skin like before! She said she could work on her and see. Thank goodness she wasn't shaved, but do you think she should have shorter hair for summer?? She told us her hair was too thick to use a guard brush (a what) so we didn't get her trimmed because we didn't understand what that meant. Anyway we picked her up and she had pig tails in-DH rolled his eyes he hates this I keep telling him they are both girls like it or not!

Ya I don't like it when groomers do that either (at least to doodles). It looks so sad and kinda ugly.

Nikki, I had the exact same thing happen with my Bella the first time I took her to get groomed.  It was awful!  Eventually changed groomers because they continued to shave the top of her nose, even after I took in pictures of what I wanted!  Glad to see Bella is growing out and looking like her adorable self again!

I didn't want Bella to be shaved - all I wanted was for her to be bathed and have the hair hanging in front of her eyes trimmed and sani and pads trimmed. Well I did not recognise her when I picked her up she went from cute shaggy puppy to weird puffball puppy with a shaved face!!! Poor thing - I almost cried for her - I would have walked past her in the street. She went from this.......to this........2wks later she is looking more like her normal self........

Well it is usually Taylor that bruses Huff and she says that this shampoo helps with tangles and unrulley hair (and it smells like apples).

Bobbi Panter's:  Shampoo.

You can google it and check it out.

I love my long hair Neely and don't ever want to shave him and don't really trim him up much. He has never been to a groomer just us. BUT we will be renting a cottage this august and he will be swimming and boating everyday and sand and bush and We are thinking that there will be no way that we can get him dry enough or clean enough and swimming makes matts. Do any of you long hair doods have any advice to help us to keep from shaving him down?
