I've read reviews on the Andis Ultra Edge AGC Super 2-speed that indicate they get very hot and perhaps often. Is it the same with the Andis 22340 AGC 2-speed Professional? Is the plus to Andis vs. Oster that they require less maintenance (internal oiling?)? I've never grommed my mini doodle myself yet, but I am ordering a grooming table and am confused over which clippers will be best for her (without breaking the bank!). She have very wooly fleece and is matted under her ears. Any advice is welcomed!
My Oster clipper gets too hot to hold and my Andis handle never gets hot. I think the blades on my Andis get hot a little faster, but I'm not sure.
All blades get hot during use. I put the blade on my cheek every few minutes to check the temp. There are cooling sprays to use. I have several no.10 blades so I can switch, allowing them to cool.
Clipper burns do happen at the groomers and is something we have to be careful about all the time. If your dog is very woolly, it is hard to use a clipper. You need to table dry the coat to zero curl and knots to use longer blades. Scissors work better for curly heavy coats. Then the clipper is only useful for tummies, sani clip and under the earflap.
That's so good to know! If I only need clippers for those areas, which ones would you recommend? Also, I was going to order some scissors w/ the grooming table. Which ones are must-haves if I'll be scissoring most of her body? Thank you so much!
I really like the Wahl Arco SE. It is quieter (than a standard clipper), cordless, and more compact. Its smaller size works perfectly for those private little areas and ear flaps. It's one drawback, if you have a standard Oster or Andis clipper, is that it does not use the standard A5 style clipper blades. The blades do have 5 adjustable positions so that they can clip different lengths.
Does anyone know what kind of clippers your professionals use in dog grooming shops? How do they do so many dogs in a day without wearing out their blades? I have two Doodles, give them haircuts every 8wks. so that's 12 haircuts a year and have now gone through two Andis 2speed Clippers...they get cleaned during and after every grooming and oiled as recommended. It would cost me on an average of $720.00 a year for grooming when I can do it for less and enjoy doing it if I could find a pair of clippers that worked?
