Need help for a good shampoo and conditioner. I have been using Tropiclean Deep cleaning shampoo and Tropiclean kiwi conditioner. Both contain oatmeal and he is allergic. Now it makes since why he itches when I bathe him. Any suggestion will help.

Thanks

Kimberly, what makes you think that Mikey is allergic to oatmeal? That would be extremely unusual.

My dog has severe allergies (diagnosed by a veterinary dermatologist via skin testing) and we use Douxo Calm shampoo. It's very good for dogs with itchy skin and allergies. You can order it online. You must leave the lather on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.

It's also really important for dogs with any type of skin issues that you do not use any kind of leave-in conditioners or sprays.

Well if he eats any oatmeal he immediatly breaks out. I did finally get insurance on him yay!! My groomer mentioned it to me. He does itch and bite when I use that shampoo. It may not be the oatmeal or just something in it. Either way He needs something. I feel horrible when I bathe him and you would think he had fleas.

Ingesting a substance is very different physiologically from using it topically. Even if he does have an intolerance to oatmeal when ingested, (it's doubtful that he has an actual  allergy to it) it's very, very unlikely that using it in a topical form would cause a problem. In fact, oatmeal shampoos are used very frequently on dogs who have known, reliably diagnosed allergies, because they have properties that soothe the skin. (Just like we give oatmeal baths to kids with poison ivy, chicken pox, etc. You groomer has no medical or veterinary training and is not qualified to diagnose health conditions or advise you on treatment, lol.

But clearly, it's not the right choice for him, whatever the reason. Try the Douxo, most of the people here who've used it rave about it. And that recommendation comes from a board-certified veterinary dermatologist, lol.

Many shampoos give Tara itchy skin and welts. We have been using Aroma Paws for sensitive skin/allergies and she does great with it.

Notice that the Aroma Paws shampoo contains colloidal oatmeal, lol.

ok. I guess it's just this brand that makes him itchy. I will check those out!

You might want to test any new shampoo on a small area before he gets a full bath with it. :)

I use Chris Christensen spectrum 10 shampoo and conditioner . Works great! Smells good too.
I use Cowboy Magic shampoo. I love the product but neither of my boys have sensitive skin as far as I know, so I can't speak to that. I checked the label and I don't think there's anything oatmeal in it if he is in fact allergic to it. I should add though there are a ton of big worded chemicals so I'm not sure if that would bother his skin, as I have no idea what exactly they are. Good luck!
