Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am trying to pre- purchase everything I will need to groom our new puppy. I see that grooming seems to start with a comb and I have been looking for the right one. I see that the Les Pooches comb is $150, zowie, that seems like it must be awefully good or made of gold to be so pricey. Is there a reason why that brand of comb is so expensive. Is that the preferred brand or will one of the less expensive combs work. Any pros or cons on the golden comb lol?
Thanks, Kris

I use a Bamboo rotating tines comb that works really well for me. Cost around $9 thru amazon.
I would wait and see with the comb. You don't know what coat your doodle will have, they go through changes. I have been contemplating the Les Pooches comb as well for over 2 years now.... it's just too expensive for me. Plus, I usually keep the coat shorter than 2 inches so there is really no need for an expensive brush.
Thanks so much for the replies. It is so hard to know which things to buy and which can wait. It is like buying things for a first baby that you realize you never use or need but you think if it is out there you better have it. Buying stuff for this puppy is going to cost more than sending someone to college for a year. So, I want to get good quality essentials.
Jarka, our puppy is named Auggie Doggie.. My husband can be the Doggie Daddy lol
A steel comb in the $15 range is usually more than adequate. I like my CC comb which was in the $50 range. I like it because it has longer tynes so they don't cut into my fingers. They have wooden holders for them too.
Ditto!
Thanks for the replies, if I can get by with a less expensive comb that will leave a little more for all of the other puppy purchases.
Today I got the bells, ear cleaner, a trampoline type bed and on and on it goes. This puppy will probably end up with way more than he needs, the thing is, in the wild they have no bells or ear cleaner or special food. But they look mangy and have dirty ears lol
My breeder suggested a comb and I got it on Amazon for $11. Thanks for the advice on using Amazon, I even got free shipping.
It is a Greyhound comb. That is the one my breeder uses. Thank goodness she didn't recommend the $150 comb lol. She does recommend the Les Pooches brush though so that tells me that if the Le pooches comb was necessary she would be using and recommending it.
That is good to know . Are they less expensive than the Les Pooches brush?
The brush seems worth it but $150 for a comb?? How many different ways can you make a comb? The one I got is really nice. I haven't had a change to try it out as we don't get Auggie until Jan. 15th. I"ll let you know how well it works.
