Wendy, my first suggestion would be to contact DRC...they have available doodles listed on the front page of www.doodlekisses.com. All of the dogs are in foster homes. They can have you fill out an app, find out what you're looking for, get you approved and ready to go. This will give you a better idea of the temperament and needs of the new dog so the transition can be an easy one. They get some GORGEOUS dogs, btw. :-)
Also, if you live in Chesterfield County and have the time to go by Animal Control, check them out. They are a kill shelter. Many shelter workers have no idea what they have when a doodle arrives. It can be listed as anything from a terrier mix to a wheaten terrier mix or a poodle mix. I've known two ppl who have gotten really cute doodles this way. :-)
And, of course, always check out www.petfinder.com. List the main breed as standard poodle or poodle. I got my Connor the goldendoodle (as a puppy) that way. Check out www.idog.biz, too.
Be patient and persistent. Check the internet daily. Call Jacquie @ DRC and you will find the perfect dog for Jeter and your human family. :-)
Does anyone know of any rescue doodles in the Richmond area? I am considering getting a friend for Jeter. Where should I look?
Leann, I just went to check the listing and it says "this posting has been flagged for removal"
If you see anything like this about doodles needing to be rehomed, please contact either me or Belinda. We'll be glad to follow up with doodle rescue about getting him in foster care and only going to a thoroughly researched, approved home. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.
Where do you post about doodles needing rescue? There's a post on richmond's craiglist about a 5 month old doodle being rehomed... just thought I'd let someone know but not sure where to post the link!
Northside Dog Park still not open. I will call Dude Ranch for available dates in near future.
This is definitely NOT my Dixon but is funny:
Hi everyone - Lots of doodle events going on. I just updated the "Richmond Dog Events" discussion above with about 4 new events.
There's also the Bark in the Park this Wednesday (Nancy talks about it below). Kaiya won't be able to make it this year. :-(
And since the Northside Dog Park isn't complete, I think Katie is trying to figure out what to do for the May Romp. Any suggestions? Otherwise, I'd say let's try to do it in the fall. Hopefully it'll be done.
Also, any volunteers to organize the June or July doodle romp?
So I learned somethin this past weekend getting ready for a big crowd at my house after a funeral..... if u WASH yer doodle's fuzzie toyz in the washing machine...... they get their "fuzziness" back, but ...... yer doodle becomes an INSTANT BLONDE. That answers my questions about size, shape, color .... Miss "smarty pants Doodle Idol" lost it all !!!!! (no joke)
Quickly went thru all the toyz to get the scent back (uh.....SLOBBER I guess), but thought I'd share the info for anyone training to retrieve specific toyz.
