What is the meaning and origin of your Doodle's name? Darwin is Old English in origin, and it means "a dear friend." Loved that!

Our puppy's name is Mulligan!

We named our puppy Mulligan, as in golf "do over".  We call her "Mullie" or "Molly" sometimes for short.  Just like it means "do over" in golf, Mulligan gave us a "do over"chance in life.  She…Continue

Karen, I didn't know that...but oddly enough, our favorite nickname for Simon is "Simo"...hmmm :-)

Denise, Camo is one of the names I would use for a male dog...and maybe Cameo for a female.
Names ending in O or A are recommended by the Monks of New Skete and some other trainers. You may notice that many police dogs have names ending in O.

Susan, be sure to post pictures from your Bosco party. Sounds like a great idea and fun time!

I got a kick out of reading how Sally thought of the name Chewbacca - so had I when we ultimately selected a chocolate labradoodle - and so many of them reminded me of that Star Wars character!

Originally I was going to get a red or cream color dog and had come up with the name Zeke, inspired by the Ezekiel bread my son likes. But when that deal fell through, so did the name. It simply didn't feel right using it, too much bad "karma" (Now there would have been a cute name!).

Shortly after deciding on the new breeder, who was expecting a variety of black and chocolate, I was browsing through a home furnishing store where there was a display of old fashioned teddy bears. One of them reminded me of the mascot from the chocolate drink I used to like as a kid - Bosco. Which, in turn, reminded me of the new puppy we were to be getting. Hence, our new Bosco boy!

We're even having a party to introduce him in a few weeks - I went online and bought chocolate, caramel and strawberry Bosco, Bosco T-shirts and hats and will be having a Welcome Bosco with Bosco Sundae party! A little over the top (with assorted ice cream toppings, too!) I know,,,,but I'm so excited to have this little guy in our lives I'm indulging in the fanfare!

I need to start my comment out by saying that my husband's family is in the car business -- the Chevrolet business to be exact! When we got our first doodle, my DH, our 2 kids and me threw names around for several days. We had never had a big dog and we were looking for the perfect name. I thought that "Duke" was the perfect name as our son had just been accepted to Duke University and I had joked that the doodle was going to be his "replacement." (That ended up to be true but that's another story!) My son insisted that I was "over-the-top" and refused to let me give our new puppy such a common dog name. Finally, we all agreed on "Tahoe," after the SUV that we sell quite a few of here in Texas! We thought the name was PERFECT, however as he grew to be 75 pounds, we wondered to ourselves if perhaps "Suburban" would have been a better choice! After our Tahoe died, it wasn't long before I found a new puppy to fill the holes in our hearts. This time the naming process centered entirely on Chevrolet models. We considered "Cam" for Camaro, "Rado" for Silverado, "Blaze" for the old Blazer, "Boo" for Malibu, etc. We finally settled on our daughter's suggestion..."Knox" for the Chevrolet Equinox! I think it's a great name for him -- he looks just like a Knox, whatever that happens to be! ha!

We had a much loved golden retriever who went to the Bridge @ 4 1/2 yrs old from cancer. When we were looking for another dog, my husband got stuck on wanting a newfoundland. Since giant breeds don't have long lifespans we looked for a breeder who bred first for health, then temperament and beauty. Since we hoped for a long-lived dog, we named him after folklore immortal, The Highlander, Duncan McLeod. Duncan the newf started having health problems when he was about 8 1/2 yrs old. That's when I decided to add another dog. I had fallen in love with doodles at work and had to have a goldendoodle. When I finally found a puppy in rescue, I knew I had to name him Connor. Connor was Duncan McLeod's younger brother. Duncan had taught Connor all he knew about courage, honor, etc. in case he was ever taken, Connor could carry on the family legacy.
A long story to how my sweet Connor got his name. In the last two weeks before Duncan passed, he and Connor became great buds. Sometimes at night, they'd be lying near each other and Duncan would reach his huge paw over and "hold" Connor's little puppy paw.
Comment by Denise & Hunter!!! on May 28, 2010 at 7:09am
My husband named Hunter - not a very girly name. His only request when getting our doodle was naming her (I would have put my foot down to anything to off the wall!!). His first suggestion was Mossberg (after the gun) - ah no. Then he suggested Camo - after I was done rolling on the floor laughing and crying he came up with Hunter - I figured I would quit while I was ahead!
