I started writing a list of names (ended up with around 60) and letting both my husband and daughter add to it. Then we started deleting if someone absolutely hated the name. Then added points if we all three loved the name etc. til it was narrowed down. When we got to around three names, there was one that my daughter and I loved and my husband was fond of. That's the name we chose and he loves it now too, because he loves our Goldendoodle!
Your Pup was born around Valentine's day...and it's a girl!
Can you think of something relating to Vday that you could name her? (Honey, Sugar, Sweetie...you get the point)
I named my little boy (BIG now!) Casper because we left Halloween night to drive down to Virginia to go get him.
We also did the list thing & crossed off the names that didn't appeal to everyone. In our case after a day of trick or treating & Halloween fun, Casper seemed to be perfect.
Those are great suggestions! When I brought my mini female goldendoodle home it was WEEKS before I ended up with her name. (I really wanted to name her Velcro because she was everywhere I was, like glue, and her short black curly locks reminded me a bit of the one side of velcro! I got vetoed on that one and as it turns out, she's way to cute to live with that name all her life!) She was finally dubbed Maggie Mae, Mags for short. Lots of luck and keep us posted!
I've told this story before, but here goes again. We had a toy poodle for 16 years. When she passed I was so sad and said never again would I have a dog. It was just too hard to watch her in the end. A puppy/dog is also a very life changing event. When we first got her I did not like having a puppy. Had to go straight home from work .... I was young and wasn't used to being tied down. Anyway, after loosing our poodle, I would go for puppy fixes to the pet shops and play with the puppies. Still all the while not wanting one. Then I put a big ole great dane as my screen saver. I named her Lucy. She was there for about 6 months when I added a little shih-poo also. I named her Ethel! So I had Lucy and Ethel. People actually thought I had two dogs because I talked about them like they were my own. After we left FL and moved to Ohio I started feeling that tug for a puppy. My life was completely different. I was no longer working and had no intentions of going back to work. DH was taking a long break from working and it just seemed something was missing from our new home. I started looking at puppies on line. And from there we ended up deciding to go look at some GoldenDoodle Puppies. We left there with not one but 2 puppies. The black one was instantly named Lucy and it fits her perfectly. However, the little apricot one just wasn't an Ethel ...... we debated for a couple days. I kept a list of names that I liked. Sophie was at the top of my list, but DH just wasn't into it so much. We added names and deleted names and I just kept bringing up Sophie because I knew that needed to be her name. Finally, after about 48 hours DH said you know what I think you are right, she is a Sophie! So here we are, Lucy and Sophie.
That is the SWEETEST story!!!! I'll think about this all day : ) Thanks for the smile!!! I just love that you had "Screen Saver" puppies!!! This is wonderful time of life to have a puppy - it's just great to have the time to really enjoy them!
i'll keep you guys updated. so far i dont know which one is mine. im te second one to pick the puppy. I justknow i want to go for a blonde or an apricot.
btw thanks for all your suggestions. keep them comin' !
i have made a list of names... but i still cant really narrow them done.
For me, I looked through lists of puppy names, both boy and girl names because we didn't know at the time which sex we'd get. I chose 2 syllable names with a distinctive sound, ones that would get a dog's attention. After I picked out about a dozen names I was drawn to, I presented them to my husband, who weighed in on them. If there was any negative association with the name for either of us the name was out. What we came up with were the names Lucy and Cooper. As it turned out, the name Lucy fit Lucy perfectly.

Congrats on your new puppy! Its so exciting waiting for the little one. Enjoy this time and prepare... you'll be very busy once she arrives!
Good point here, I think this has been mentioned in previous conversations, 2 syllable names work very well. Additionally, picture yourself standing at the back door yelling the name over and over and over and what they neighbors are going to think!
I started writing down names and then did my own internal edits. Once I was down to the final list (male names) I ran them by my adult sons. Mind you they don't live at home, but I gave them the chance to be part of the final choice. Winston was the winner. I think it took me weeks to get down to the final 10 names.
I never really had any say in the matter. We told my 7 year old son that he could pick the name. He is a big Star Wars fan. So our hairy little "monster" was named Chewbacca. Chewie for short.
Try to think of a name with special meaning to you...I wanted a name that ended in -er because I think that sounds cute on a dog. All of a sudden it hit me...the town where my fondest childhood memories happened on the farm with my relatives...Baker...Minnesota. My granddaughter tried to talk me out of it (call it ''woodle'), my husband was just okay with it, but it means alot to me. It fits our doodle perfectly & it's unique :)
