Bailey's first birthday is coming up, July 16. He is such a big (56 pounds) happy boy. He is from the Milou & Royal litter. Are any of his siblings close to being this big?

Thanks Carol.

She does go in and lay on the first step so she seems to know that much and the one time she fell in she headed right for that area. I will teach her the "steps" command and try coaxing her in deeper and letting her swim to them. Have a great summer.

I start my dogs out on the steps to get used to the water. Then hold them a few feet away from the steps and let them swim to the steps. I use the command "steps" so they will connect it with going to the steps. You can use any term you want, but if they start to panic for any reason they know where to go to get out if you give them the command. (It is amazing how a dog can be panicking or just out of control and you give them a command they know , like sit and it snaps them out of it.) I do this at both ends of the pool where the steps are located. It is harder in the deep end…but they are hopefully fairly comfortable with being in the water after a few pool sessions. I feel them knowing where to get out of the pool is something to be focused on at first. The swimming comes pretty naturally. :o)

Anyone have any thoughts about learning to swim? Our girl is 7 months and loves water but we haven't encouraged her to enter the pool until the weather is warm enough for us to go in with her. Want to introduce it to her right. She fell in once and swam without a problem and didn't seem to panic. I need to teach her where to exit but don't want to force her in. Thoughts?

Hi Mike, I am looking forward to seeing pictures and getting updated on Tristan's littermates, also!

Carol,

Our six month update. I have attached a few pictures of Tristan (Gabby and Socks Nov 15/09). At six months she was 48 pounds and 23 inches at the shoulder. Looks like she will be big (which we like).

She is a treat and very well behaved. She gets lots of exercise, interaction and a ton of love. Very smart pup and loves being part of the family. Hesitant Kelly gushes over her more than anyone else. She is kind of rough with Maclean (our son) and treats him like a sibling more than a master but he knows he needs to work on that.

Any pictures from her siblings?
