Did you change your doodle's name after adoption? Why? How did you choose the new name?

Lily was orginally ( Brandy ) which is a nice enough name but I wanted a new start for her. She had lived with this name for 7 months so I wasn't sure if this was the right thing to do or not. When I first met her at the shelter she was very shy and a little underweight and looked very delicate and feminine. Since my favorite flower is lily I thought this name fit her perfectly. She is now and forever Atlanta's Delicate Lily. It didn't take her long to respond to her new name, I'm very happy we changed it.

Most of the time, shelter name dog,s who do not have name. At 7 months she can, as you already saw, go for a change with no problem!

Lily is a very beautiful name for a very beautiful and lucky little doodle girl!
Jackdoodle was named Jake by his previous owners. My live-in grandson is "Jacob" which was a problem. I wanted something that sounded similar, as he was 14 months old and knew his name.
I had previously fostered a disabled police K9 named Jack-O, who had died, so we decided to use "Jack", after my foster. The "doodle" part is self-explanatory, lol.
Fenway was only a baby when we got him from the shelter, so he didn't have a name.....but it was going to be Fenway.....even if he had a name before, lol. DH always wanted a dog named Fenway. I still say we shoulda went with MONSTAH! =)
Thalie's name was Geneva and was giving by the rescue place were I got her. She only had that name for 1 or 2 weeks. She was a Thalie for me and DH agree. She is name after one of my sister-in-law and boy did she copy the personality of her "godmother"! One of the most honest, big heart but goofy, funny and direct person I ever met in my long life. I love her like a little sister, her name is Nathalie - Thalie!!!

Gamine is a very French adjective which mean "sweet, childlike, spoiled little girl"... and she is all that and more! I love my girls' name!

Tricia the name you had chosen sound like "moustache" in French which mean... the same! That could be a really good name for a doodle!
My Miko was listed as Jessica on Petfinders. The rescue group in WV called her that after the one woman's daughter. A few friends on a forum I belonged to tossed around names and Miko won.

Rumor was originally Ben. The shelter called him Roman. I and a friend thought Rumor was a better fit. Worked out well in my announcement e-mail......."Rumor has it...Gene's getting a third doodle".
We changed Sadie's name from Kara. When we went to rescue her, all her female littermates had human names which started with K (Kara, Karmen, Kayla, etc...) she very quickly learned her name even as a tired pup who had been through a lot her first 4 months!
Changing a name isn't traumatic for them. It's basically like learning a new command.
Kaiser's name had been "Thing". He was huge and had never been groomed, like an Old English sheep dog with matts, so, sadly, the name fit. However, he was not and is not a "Thing". We immediately called him Ralph because I refused to call him Thing. Then we he got back from the groomer he looked so different that Ralph didn't really fit him anymore either. Just as well, he hadn't learned Ralph yet anyway. Now he's Kaiser. By the way, the name that came in second place with my teenage daughter was "Big Sexy". From Thing to Sexy! You can see before and after pics on my page.
Brody was originally named Bear. His name was changed by his foster mom, and I liked it so he is still Brody. I like the long "E" at the end of it because you can have fun with Bro-deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......
morgan was "hershey" at the shelter, i didn't know if that was from the creep(s) who dumped him there or the shelter but thought a "fresh" start would be better anyway...i had wyatt earp, calamity jane (RIP), now annie "oakie" oakley so i thought what about wyatt's brothers? vernon was definitely out...:) so morgan it was, although alot of times i call him "baby" or "baby boy"
Clancy was originally called Buck - don't know if that was his original name, kill shelter name, or humane society name. After lots of thought and helpful and fun suggestions from dk members, we chose Clancy. We just could not see ourselves calling, " Buck, Buck" or when he jumped on us, "Buck - Off!" Can you just picture this at a dog park or a campground! tee hee. Sweet boy that he was, he did not know any commands or respond to anything but "Bad Dog" so it wasn't hard to let ourselves have some fun re-naming him. One of my favorites was a dk tongue in cheek suggestion of Hula, and he actually was Hula for a day.
